Joe Biden signs bill to address hate crimes against Asian Americans
US President Joe Biden has signed a legislation to address the sudden increase in hate crime against Asian-Americans in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed hope that such crimes would now be more accurately counted and reported.
The measure had passed both chambers of Congress by large majority votes. The new law directs the US Department of Justice to focus on the prosecution of violent crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Pakistan Inaugurates Chinese-assisted 1100MW Nuclear Power plant in Karachi
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday inaugurated the country’s first Chinese-assisted 1,100MW nuclear power plant in Karachi that coincided with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the all-weather allies.
Khan virtually performed the inauguration of the plant, formally known as Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 (Kanupp-2 or K-2), which was built with the support of China.
The construction of K-2 plant started in November 2013 and its fuel loading started on December 1, 2020.
K-3, he said, will hopefully become functional in next 8-10 months. Both K-2 and K-3 power plants have a life of about 60 years, which is extendable to 80 years.

China successfully launches new ocean observation satellite Haiyang-2D
China on Wednesday successfully sent a new ocean-monitoring satellite into orbit as part of its effort to build an all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system which would provide early warning on marine disasters.

The United Launch Alliance launched the Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. The Atlas V rocket carried SBRIS Geo-5 Missile Warning Satellite. Maharashtra launches Mission Oxygen to counter third wave of Covid-19
Maharashtra Government is implementing Mission Oxygen, which will aim at achieving self-sufficiency in oxygen production by targeting a production of 3,000 metric tonnes, State Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray.
Industries in the State produce 1,200 tonnes of oxygen, against the current requirement of approximately 1,700 tonnes, he said. Under Mission Oxygen, the sugar industry should take the initiative in the field of oxygen production.

மே 14 அன்று சர்மா ஓலி பிரதமராக பதவியேற்கிறார்.
நேபாள நாட்டு அரசியலமைப்பு சட்டப்படி பதவியேற்ற 30 நாட்களுக்குள் சர்மா ஓலி பெரும்பான்மையை நிரூபிக்க வேண்டும்.
முன்னதாக நேபாள கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சி தலைவர் புஷ்பகமல் தாஹால் அரசு அளித்து வந்த ஆதரவை திரும்ப பெற்றதால் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் சர்மா ஓலி தலைமையிலான கட்சி பெரும்பான்மையை இழந்தது.

India received $83 billion in remittances in 2020: World Bank report
India received over USD83 billion in remittances in 2020, a drop of just 0.2 per cent from the previous year, according to a World Bank report.
China, which received USD 59.5 billion in remittances in 2020 against USD 68.3 billion the previous year, is a distant second in terms of global remittances for the year gone by, as per the latest World Bank data released on Wednesday.In 2019, India had received USD83.3 billion in remittances.The report said India’s remittances fell by just 0.2 per cent in 2020.
