• இமாச்சல மாநிலத்தின் மாண்டி (Mandi) மக்களவைத் தொகுதியில் அடங்கியுள்ள டாஷிகங் வாக்குச்சாவடி (Tashigang polling Station) உலகின் மிக உயர்ந்த பகுதியில் அமைந்த வாக்குச்சாவடி என்ற சிறப்பை பெற்றுள்ளது

National News

 

• Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi have developed an Artificial Intelligence-based electronic hardware system to detect malaria, tuberculosis, an intestinal parasite, and cervical cancer in milliseconds.
  • The researchers said that their system can be used for healthcare access in resource-constrained areas with limited access to human specialists.

 

• The Indian Council of Medical Research and the African Union (AU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which formalised the India-Africa Health Sciences Collaborative Platform (IAHSP) by establishing a framework.
  • It will pave the way for cooperation in R&D, capacity building, health services, pharmaceutical trade, and manufacturing capabilities.

 

• Tashigang, a Himachal Pradesh village at an altitude of 15,256 feet, is now the highest polling station in the world.
  • Situated about 29 km from the India-China border, the polling station covers two villages, Tashigang and Gete, that have 48 voters, of which 30 are men. Earlier, a polling station at 15,000 feet was the highest in India.

 

International News

 

• India and the US signed an agreement for the exchange of country-by-country (CBC) report, which was signed by PC Mody, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), and Kenneth I Juster, US Ambassador to India.
  • The move will give huge relief to subsidiaries of US-headquartered companies in the taxation-related matter.

 

• On 28th March 2019, Skytrax World Airport Awards named Singapore’s  Changi  Airport as the the world’s best aviation hub for the seventh time in a row, while Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi climbed 8 places to rank at 59th Position.

 

Economy

 

• Public sector lender Bank of Baroda has signed an MoU with agriculture services companies to develop an agriculture digital platform, Baroda Kisan, which will provide solutions for agricultural requirements.
  • BoB has signed the agreement with Skymet Weather Services, Weather Risk Management Services, BigHaat, Agrostar India, EM3 Agri Services, and Poorti Agri Services.

 

Sports

 

• The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recommended adding breakdancing, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
  • All four sports will be assessed in terms of how they are managed, judged, before being finalized for Paris.

 

Appointments

 

• Veselin Matic, who took Iran to an Asian Games bronze medal in 2010, is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s basketball
  • A veteran international coach, Matic helped Iran qualify for its first ever World Championship (2010) with victory in the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship.

 

Awards

 

• Regarded as “Godfathers of AI”, Yoshua Bengio, Geoffrey Hinton, and Yann LeCun, have been recognized with Nobel Prize of computing, Turing Award 2018.
  • The $1 million annual prize recognized their work for developing the AI (Artificial intelligence) subfield of deep learning. The troika has developed a base for the recent growth of AI technologies, through their work in the 1990s and 2000.

 

• On 27th March 2019, Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen has been honoured with the prestigious Bodley Medal, the highest honour bestowed by the University of Oxford’s world-famous Bodleian Libraries for his contribution in literature, culture, science and communication.
  • In 1998, He was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his work in welfare economics and social choice theory.
