• உலக அளவில் வேளாண் பொருட்கள் ஏற்றுமதியில் இந்தியாவிற்கு 9 வது இடம்
  • 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டில் உலக அளவில் வேளாண் பொருட்கள் ஏற்றுமதியில் இந்தியா 9 வது இடத்தைப் பெற்றுள்ளதாக உலக வர்த்தக அமைப்பு (World Trade Organization (WTO)) வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த பட்டியலில் முதல் மூன்று இடங்களை முறையே ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியம், அமெரிக்கா மற்றும் பிரேசில் நாடுகள் பெற்றுள்ளன.

• மரபணு மாற்றப்பட்ட ‘கோல்டன் ரைஸ்’ (“Golden Rice”) – அங்கீகரித்த முதல் நாடு பிலிப்பைன்ஸ்
  • ‘கோல்டன் ரைஸ்’ (‘Golden Rice’) எனப்படும் மரபணு மாற்றப்பட்ட (Genetically Modified (GM) ) அரிசி வகையை வணிக ரீதியான உற்பத்திக்கு அங்கீகரித்துள்ள உலகின் முதல் நாடு எனும் பெயரை பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் நாடு பெற்றுள்ளது. இந்த அரிசி வகை வைட்டமின் ஏ செறிவூட்டப்பட்டுள்ளதால் அதிக ஊட்டச்சத்துடையதாக இருக்கும்.
  • குழந்தைகளில் பார்வைக் குறைபாடை சரி செய்வதற்கு உதவி செய்யும்.
  • “கோல்டன் ரைஸ்”(Golden Rice ) எனப்படும் மரபணு மாற்றப்பட்ட (Genetically Modified (GM) ) அரிசி வகையை பேராசிரியர் இங்கோ போட்ரிகஸ் (Ingo Potrykus ) மற்றும் பேராசிரியர் பீட்டர் பேயர் (Peter Beye) ஆகியோர் 1980களில் கண்டுபிடித்தனர்.

  • For the past two decades, the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have been developing Golden Rice to help combat vitamin A deficiency which can cause blindness and lead to otherdiseases.
  • Golden Rice was first created by professors Ingo Potrykus and Peter Beyer in the late 1980s.

• India is now in the category of world’s top agricultural exporters
  • India has entered the top 10 list of the countries exporting agricultural produce in the year 2019 with a sizable share in the export of rice, cotton, soya beans and meat.
  • As per a report by World Trade Organization (WTO) on the trends in world agricultural trade in the past 25 years, India and Mexico with 3.1% and 3.4% share in global Agri exports, respectively, replaced New Zealand (9th) and Malaysia (7th) as the largest exporters across the globe.

• The Philippines has become the world’s first country Friday to approve the commercial production of genetically modified “golden rice”.
  • 23 July 2021, Los Baños, PHILIPPINES – Filipino farmers will become the first in the world to be able to cultivate a variety of rice enriched with nutrients to help reduce childhood malnutrition, after receiving the green light from regulators.
  • Golden Rice was developed by the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) in partnership with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to contain additional levels of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A.
  • Golden Rice was first conceived by Professors Ingo Potrykus and Peter Beyer in the late 1980s. IRRI became the first licensee of the scientists’ work in 2001.
  • For the past two decades, the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have been developing Golden Rice to help combat vitamin A deficiency which can cause blindness and lead to otherdiseases.
