• சர்வதேச நாடுகளின் சபையான ஐ.நா., இந்தியாவுக்கான நிலையான வளர்ச்சி இலக்குகள் எனப்படும் SDS (Sustainable Development Goals) இன் முதல் இளம் வர்த்தக சாம்பியனாக (First Youth Business Championship) மானசி கிர்லோஸ்கரை (Manasi Kirloskar) தேர்வு செய்துள்ளது. 
  • இதன்மூலம் இவர், நிலையான வளர்ச்சி இலக்குகளை அடைய மற்ற இளம் தலைமுறைகளை ஊக்குவிப்பார். மேலும், பருவநிலை மாற்றம், பிளாஸ்டிக் மற்றும் குப்பைகளை சுத்திகரித்தல், பெண்ணுரிமை போன்றவற்றில் ஐ.நா.வுடன் இணைந்து செயல்பட உள்ளார்.

 

 

• இந்தியாவின் முதல் ‘மெத்தனால் சமையல் எரிபொருள் திட்டம்’ (India’s First Methanol Cooking Fuel Program), அசாம் மாநிலத்தில் நாம்ரூப் நகரில் அசாம் பெட்ரோலிய நிறுவனத்தால் தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • இந்த திட்டம் நிதி ஆயோக் (NITI Aayog) மூலம் ஊக்குவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

 

 

உலக நிகழ்வுகள்

 

• சுற்றுலாத் துறையில் இருதரப்பு ஒத்துழைப்பை அதிகரிப்பது, சுற்றுலா தொடர்பான தகவல்கள் மற்றும் தரவுகளைப் பரிமாறிக் கொள்வது, சுற்றுலா மற்றும் விருந்தோம்பல் துறையில் முதலீடுகளை அதிகரிப்பது தொடர்பான ஒப்பந்தத்தில் இந்தியா மற்றும் ருமேனியா நாடுகளுக்கிடையே கையெழுத்தாகி உள்ளது.
  • இந்தியாவின் சுற்றுலாத் துறையின் வளர்ச்சியில் ருமேனிய நாடு முக்கிய பங்கு வகிப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

 

 

• அரபிக் கடலில் உருவான காற்றழுத்த தாழ்வு மண்டலம் புயலாக மாறி உள்ளது. அந்தப் புயலுக்கு “லூபன்” என பெயரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • ஓமன் நாடு இப்பெயரை வைத்துள்ளது. ஓமனி மொழியில் “லூபன்” என்றால் சாம்பிராணி மரத்தைக் குறிக்கும் (Frankincese Tree)
  • இதேபோன்று, அமெரிக்காவின் புளோரிடா மகாணத்தை பயங்கர காற்றுடன் தாக்கவிருக்கும், அட்லாண்டிக் கடல் பகுதியில் உருவாகியிருக்கும் புயலுக்கு “மைக்கேல்” எனப் பெயரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
• குறிப்பு:
  • வங்கக் கடலில் உருவாகியிருக்கும் புயலின் பெயர் – “தித்லி” இப்பெயரை பாகிஸ்தான் வைத்துள்ளது. இப்புயலானது ஆந்திரா-ஒடிசா கடற்கரையை அக்டோபர் 11 அன்று கடக்கிறது.

 

 

விருதுகள்

 

• மத்திய மனிதவள மேம்பாட்டுத்துறை அமைச்சகம் பல்வேறு பிரிவுகளின் கீழ், ஸ்வச்சதா ஹை சேவா (Swachhta Hi Seva) என்ற கணக்கெடுப்பை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு தூய்மையான வளாகத்திற்கான தரநிலைகளை (Swachh Campus ranking) அறிவித்துள்ளது.

• இந்திய மெடல்கள் மற்றும் ஃபெரோ அலாய்ஸ் நிறுவனத்தின் அறக்கட்டளைப் பிரிவால் (IMPacT) வழங்கப்படும் உயரிய விருதான, 2018ம் ஆண்டிற்கான 26வது ஏகலபியா விருது (Ekalabya Award – 2018) ஒடிசா மாநிலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஹாக்கி வீரரான லீலிமா மின்ஸ் பெற உள்ளார்.

• இந்திய தலைமைப் புள்ளியியல் அலுவலராக ‘பிரவீன் ஸ்ரீவஸ்தவா’ (Chief Statistician of India) நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார் முன்னதாக இப்பொறுப்பில் இருந்த டி.சி.ஏ ஆனந்த், என்பவருக்குப் பதிலாக இவர் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார் பிரவீன் ஸ்ரீவஸ்தவா, 2020 ஆகஸ்ட் வரை அப்பதவியில் இருப்பார்.
  • இந்திய புள்ளியியல் துறைதான் மொத்த உள்நாட்டு உற்பத்தி (GDP – Gross Domestic Product), பணவீக்கம் உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு தேசிய முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த புள்ளி விவரங்களை சேகரித்து, ஆய்வறிக்கையாக வெளியீட்டு வருகிறது.

 

 

• மத்திய அரசின் தலைமை வழக்கறிஞர் வரிசையில் அட்டானிக் ஜெனரலுக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக உள்ள சொலிசிட்டர் ஜெனரல் பதவிக்கு, “துஷார் மேத்தா” என்பவர் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்
• குறிப்பு:
  • தற்போதைய அட்டானிக் ஜெனரல் – K.K. வேணுகோபால் அட்டானிக் ஜெனரல், இந்திய குடியரசுத் தலைவரால் அரசியலமைப்பு சட்ட விதி 76-ன் படி நியமனம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

• உலக மனநல தினம் (World Mental Health Day) – அக்டோபர் 10
  • உலகம் முழுவதிலும் மனநலம் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வை மக்களிடையே ஏற்படுத்துவதற்காக ஆண்டுதோறும் அக்டோபர் 10ம் தேதி உலக மனநல தினமாக கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.
  • இத்தினமானது 1992ம் ஆண்டு முதல் கொண்டாடப்பட்;டு வருகிறது.
    2018ம் ஆண்டிற்கான உலக மனநல தினத்துக்கான கருப்பொருள் – “Young people and Mental Health in a Changing World”
• குறிப்பு:
  • உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பு, உலக நல மருத்துவ அமைப்பு, இந்திய மனநல மருத்துவ சங்கம் போன்றவற்றின் அறிவுறுத்தலின் பேரில் இந்தியாவில் உலக மனநல பாதுகாப்பு வாரம் அக்டோபர் 4 முதல் அக்டோபர் 10 வரை கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.

NATIONAL NEWS

• IIT-Madras will collaborate with Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) to enhance data-driven governance. Through this engagement, the Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RBC DSAI ) at IIT-Madras has agreed to support the State government on various data science and ICT-related challenges.
  • The collaboration is expected to contribute towards various aspects of governance, including (but not limited to) education, healthcare, and agriculture, says a press release from IIT-Madras.

 

• Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will complete commissioning of its second generation (2G) ethanol bio-refinery at Baulsingha village in Bargarh district of Odisha by 2020.
  • The proposed plant will see an investment of Rs 1000 crore, the foundation stone of which was laid. This is the first biofuel plant in the country where ethanol will be produced from rice straw.

 

• President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 29th Accountants General Conference at the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) building, at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, in New Delhi. This conference provides an opportunity to discuss on efforts needed to enhance accountability, transparency and good governance.
  • The theme of this year’s conference is: “Auditing and Accounting in a Digital Era”. Accountants General from all over India are taking part in the conference.

 

• India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Odisha and Andhra Pradesh as a cyclonic storm called ‘Titli’ is advancing in the eastern coasts of the these states. The Cyclone has formed due to depression in the Bay of Bengal region which is intensifying and may have strong winds reaching 100 kmph along the Odisha coast.

 

• The 9-day 17th edition of Old World Theatre festival was announced to commence from October 20, 2018. It will be organized by India Habitat Centre. It will showcase 15 plays on a pan-Indian constellation of original scripts from Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, and Kerala.
  • It has been recognised by UNESCO as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”.

 

• The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has formally launched ‘India for Humanity’ initiative to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The larger aim is to provide for the physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the differently-abled around the world.
  • The MEA is collaborating with the renowned charitable organisation — “Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti” (BMVSS) for the implementation.

 

• Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda inaugurated ‘2nd World Conference on Access to Medical Products: Achieving the SDGs 2030’ in New Delhi.
  • The main objective of the 2nd World Conference 2018 is to take forward the recommendations from the 1st World Conference 2017 and build on the work done for access to medical products in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with General Programme of Work (GPW 13) of WHO.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• UK-based charity ‘Oxfam International’s report named ‘Commitment to Reducing Inequality (CRI) Index was released. India ranked 147th among 157 countries analysed and was labeled a “a very worrying situation” with respect to the rising inequality in the country.
  • Out of 157 countries measured, Denmark topped the list based on its high and progressive taxation, high social spending and good protection of workers.

 

• Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has left for Paris on a three-day visit to France. Ms Sitharaman will hold wide-ranging talks with her French counterpart Florence Parly on ways to deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries and also deliberate on major regional and global issues of mutual interests.

 

ECONOMY

• Tech major IBM India and NITI Aayog announced an internship programme for the top performing under-18 students selected by the ATAL Innovation Mission, a flagship programme of the government to promote entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Over 40 high school students will go through a two-week paid internship at the IBM campus in Bengaluru.

 

APPOINTMENTS

• Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta has been appointed as the new Solicitor General of India. He is currently serving as the Additional Solicitor General. The Solicitor General of India is the second-highest rank for a law officer of the government.
  • The post of the second highest ranking law officer of the government had fallen vacant after senior advocate Ranjit Kumar’s resignation in December last year.

 

• The government appointed 58-year-old Pravin Srivastava, as the chief statistician of India (CSI). His tenure will be till August 31, 2020. He will be succeeding previous incumbent Mr. TCA Anant.
  • He has also served secretary to the Indian Statistical Commission, popularly known as the Rangarajan Commission.

 

AWARDS

• Indus Towers, world’s largest telecom tower company (outside China), won the Deming Prize for 2018, being the first Indian company in the service sector and the fifth in the world to achieve this. The Deming Prize was bestowed on Indus Towers for distinctive performance improvements through the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) practices.

 

• Veena Sendre from Chhattisgarh has been chosen as India’s first ‘Miss Trans Queen’. Veena defeated Namita Ammu of Tamil Nadu to claim the title at the national-level beauty contest organised in Mumbai. Sendre, a former Miss Chhattisgarh, belongs to Mandir Hasaud village in Raipur.

 

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

• China successfully launched two remote sensing satellites belonging to the Yaogan-32 family by a Long March-2C rocket with an upper stage on its top, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China. The remote sensing satellites have been launched to conduct electromagnetic environmental probes.
  • The satellites have entered the planned orbits. They will be involved in electromagnetic environment surveys and related technology tests.

 

SPORTS

• International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made Senegal the host of the 2022 Youth Olympic Games, making it the first African host of any Olympics. Senegal will host the youth games in 3 places: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly.
