• சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள கிழக்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலைத்தொடர் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் 308 வகை பறவைகள் உயிர் வாழ்வதாக சேலம் இயற்கை மற்றும் வனவாழ் உயிரின அறக்கட்டளை நடத்திய கணக்கெடுப்பில் தெரிய வந்துள்ளது.
• 1929- ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் இந்த கணக்கெடுப்பு நடைபெற்று வருகிறது.
• பொருளாதார ரீதியில் பின்தங்கிய பொதுப்பிரிவினருக்கு 10% இடஒதுக்கீட்டுக்கு வழிகாட்டு நெறிமுறைகளை தமிழக அரசு வருவாய் துறை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.
  • தற்போது நடைமுறையில் உள்ள இடஒதுக்கீட்டுக்கான வரம்புக்குள் வராமல் குடும்ப ஆண்டு வருமானம் ரூ. 8 லட்சத்துக்குள் வருபவர்கள் இந்த இடஒதுக்கீட்டை பெற முடியும்.
  • இதனை நடைமுறைப்படுத்த இந்திய அரசு அரசியலமைப்பு பிரிவு 15 மற்றும் 16 –யை சட்ட திருத்தம் செய்துள்ளது.

• முதல் அதிநவீன அப்பாச்சி கார்டியன் ஹெலிகாப்டரை இந்திய விமான படையிடம் வழங்கியது அமெரிக்காவின் போயிங் நிறுவனம்.
  • இந்திய விமானப் படையும், அமெரிக்க அரசு மற்றும் போயிங் நிறுவனத்துடன் AH – 64 E (I) – அப்பாச்சி கார்டியன் ரக ஹெலிகாப்டர்களை வாங்க ஒப்பந்தம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.
• உலகின் முதலாவது பிராந்திய மகளிர் கிரிக்கெட் பத்திரிக்கை “CRICZONE” இந்தியாவில் தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• தென் ஆப்பிரிக்காவில் ஆட்சியை தக்கவைத்தது தேசிய காங்கிரஸ்.
  • சிரில் ராமாபோஸா மீண்டும் அதிபராக பதவியேற்க உள்ளார்
  • தென்னாப்பிரிக்க தேர்தலில் விகிதாசாரா பிரதிநிதித்துவ அடிப்படையில் தேர்தல் நடத்தப்படுகிறது.

 

விளையாட்டு நிகழ்வுகள்

 

• கோவையில் 36-வது தேசிய அளவிலான இளையோர் கூடைபந்து போட்டி நடைபெறுகிறது.
  • 57 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு கோவையில் தேசிய கூடைபந்து போட்டி நடைபெறுகிறது.
  • 25 மாநிலங்களில் இருந்து 16 வயதுக்கு உட்பட்ட 700-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட வீரர் வீராங்கனைகள் கலந்து கொள்கின்றனர்.

• United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has decided to hold Ocean Conference 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal from June 2 to 6, 2020.
  • Theme “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions.”

 

• Singapore, for the first time, has detected a case with the rare monkey pox virus which was brought in by a Nigerian man. He thought to have got this rare virus by eating bushmeat.
  • Monkey pox is a rare disease caused by the virus that is transmitted from animals, such as rodents and monkeys (through the hunting and consumption of bush meat), to humans. It is usually found in the central and western parts of Africa’s tropical rainforest.

 

ECONOMY NEWS

• A PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) of the Indian government under the Railway Ministry, Konkan Railways Corporation Ltd (KRCL), signed an agreement in Kathmandu, with Nepal’s Department of Railways in the presence of Manjeev Singh Puri, Indian Ambassador to Nepal and Madhusudan Adhikari, Nepalese Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Secretary.

 

APPOINTMENTS

• On 9th May 2019, Croatia’s World Cupper and former manager IgorStimac has been appointed as Indian men’s team coach after the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) technical committee recommended him for the post.He succeeds Stephen Constantine.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

• The Indian Air Force legally received its 1st Apache Guardian attack helicopter AH-64E (I) during a ceremony at the Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, US (United States). This first attack helicopter in India’s defence arsenal was received by Air Marshal AS Butola, IAF.
  • In September 2015, India signed a $1.4 billion deal with the US government and Boeing for 22 attack helicopters (AH- 64 E Apache helicopters), of which the 1st batch of helicopters will be shipped to India by July.

 

SPORTS

• A 35-year old, former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure retired from football.He had won three premier league titles, two League Cups and one Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) in 2011 for Manchester City and for Barcelona, he won two LaLiga titles and Champions League 2019.

 

IMPORTANT DAYS

• It’s National Technology Day, observed on May 11 across India and the day also marks India’s progress in science and technology. It was on May 11 that India conducted its nuclear missile Shakti, also known as Operation Shakti.
  • The National Technology Day was coined by late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
