• ஐரோப்பிய யூனியனிலிருந்து பிரிட்டன் வெளியே திருத்தப்பட்ட பிரெக்ஸிட் (BREXIT) ஒப்பந்த மசோதா பிரிட்டன் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் மீண்டும் நிராகரிக்கப்பட்டது.
  • ஐரோப்பிய யூனியனில் பிரிட்டனானது 1973ம் ஆண்டு இணைந்தது.
  • ஐரோப்பிய யூனியனில் 28 உறுப்பு நாடுகள் உள்ளன.

• இந்தியாவின் பாதுகாப்பு ஆய்வகமான பாதுகாப்பு ஆராய்ச்சி மற்றும் மேம்பாட்டு அமைப்பானது உள்நாட்டிலேயே தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட வழிகாட்டு ஏவுகலன் அமைப்பான “பினாகாவை” இராஜஸ்தானில் உள்ள பொக்ரானில் வெற்றிகரமாக சோதனை செய்துள்ளது.

 

 

• இந்தியாவில் பல்வேறு அலைநீளம் கொண்ட விண்வெளி ஆய்வகமான “ஆஸ்ட்ரோசாட்”-ஐப் பயன்படுத்தி கோள வடிவ நட்சத்திரங்களான NGC 2808-ல் உள்ள புதிய புற ஊதா நட்சத்திரக் கூட்டங்களை திருவனந்தபுரம் மற்றும் மும்பையைச் சேர்ந்த ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்கள் கண்டறிந்துள்ளனர்.
  • ஆஸ்ட்ரோசாட் என்பது இந்தியாவின் முதலாவது பல்வேறு அலைநீளம் கொண்ட விண்வெளி ஆய்வகமாகும்.
  • இது 2015ம் ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் 28 அன்று பிஎஸ்எல்வி – எக்ஸ்எல் (PSLV-XL) மூலம் ஏவப்பட்டது.

• உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பின் தலைமை விஞ்ஞானியாக (Chief Scientist of WHO) டாக்டர். சௌமியா சுவாமிநாதன் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
  • சௌமியா சுவாமிநாதன் தற்போது உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பின் துணை இயக்குநராக பணிபுரிகிறார்.

• உலக தங்க ஆணையம் (World Gold Council) வெளியிட்டுள்ள உலகின் தங்கம் வைத்திருக்கும் நாடுகளின் பட்டியலில் இந்தியாவானது 11வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது.
  • முதலிடத்தில் அமெரிக்காவும், ஜெர்மனி இரண்டாவது இடத்திலும் உள்ளது.

• உலக சிறுநீரக தினம் – மார்ச் 14, 2019 (மார்ச் இரண்டாவது வியாழன்)
  • சிறுநீரக நோய் குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த, உலகம் முழுவதும் ஆண்டுதோறும் மார்ச் மாதம் இரண்டாவது வியாழக்கிழமை உலக சிறுநீரக தினம் (World Kidney Day) கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.
  • 2019ம் ஆண்டின் உலக சிறுநீரக தின மையக்கருத்து: “எங்கும் அனைவருக்கும் சிறுநீரக சுகாதாரம்” (Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere) என்பதாகும்.

  • கணிதத்தில் பை (π)யின் மதிப்பு ஏறத்தாழ 3.14 ஆகும்.
  • கணிதவியலாளர்களால் உலகம் முழுவதும், மார்ச் 14ம் தேதி உலக பை (π) நாளாக கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.

 

 

புத்தகங்கள்

 

• “Tiger Woman” என்ற தலைப்பிலான புத்தகம், பெங்காலி நாவலாசிரியர் சிர்ஷோ பந்தோபதியா (Sirsho Bandopadhyay) என்பவரால் எழுதி வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • இந்த புத்தகமானது, அருணாவா சின்ஹா என்பவரால் எழுதப்பட்ட “Shardul Sundari” என்ற நூலின் மொழிபெயர்பாகும்.

National News

• On 13th March 2019, The Supreme Court clarified its last year order on police reforms and said officers who have a minimum of six months tenure left in service can be considered for the post of Director General of Police (DGP).
  • Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi headed the bench and recommendation for the post of DGP by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and preparation of the appointment panel should be purely on the basis of merit.

 

• On 13th March 2019, following the advice of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, atleast 12 states in India have banned Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS).
  • Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Jharkhand have taken steps to ban the use of ENDS.

 

• IT major Wipro Ltd opened its centre of excellence for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in Kochi in Kerala. Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain and robotics, the centre will develop proofs of concept and market-ready IoT solutions.
  • The facility is Wipro’s third one dedicated to industrial IoT after one each in Mountain View in California and Bengaluru.

 

International Affairs

• On 13th March 2019, the 9th round of the U.S.-India Strategic Security Dialogue held in Washington DC, United States. Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale led the Indian delegation and Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson led the US delegation.

 

Economy

• Infosys would open a digital innovation centre at Bucharest in Romania to develop software for clients based on cloud, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The $11-billion outsourcing firm also tied up with the University of Bucharest and the University Politehnica Bucharest for innovation and Romanian workforce development, including joint training courses, scholarships and research.
  • The services will be in cyber forensics, ethical hacking, security analytics, threat detection and response.

 

Awards

• Andhra Pradesh IT minister Nara Lokesh, BJP MP Poonam Mahajan and Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain are among the 6 Indians featuring in the list of Young Global Leaders, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • The list has 127 of the world’s most promising social activists, business leaders, public servants, artists and technologists under the age of 40.

 

• Social entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, Padmanaban Gopalan, founder of No Food Waste, was named the winner of the Commonwealth Youth Award for the Asian region worth 3,000 Pounds at a ceremony at the Common wealth Secretariat in London.

• The Government also appointed R. Kumar as the Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for a period of 5 years.
  • He was the Zonal Manager (In-Charge) of North Zone, Delhi prior to this appointment.

 

Sports

• On 14th March 2019, After South America’s ruling body CONMEBOL once again ruled out a US proposal to host the tournament, Argentina and Colombia are poised to co-host the 2020 Copa America.
  • It is for the first time in the modern Copa America era that the tournament will be split between two countries. The two countries separated by some 4,350 miles (7,000 kilometers)
