  • மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் தேர்வுக்குச் செல்லும்போது, சொந்த உதவியாளரை (ஸ்கிரைப்) அழைத்துச் செல்ல அனுமதி வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதற்கான புதிய வழிகாட்டுதலை UGC (University Grants Commission – பல்கலைக்கழக மானியக் குழு) வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.

  • லண்டனை தலைமையிடமாகக் கொண்டு செயல்படும் டைம்ஸ் உயர்கல்வி நிறுவனம் 2019ம் ஆண்டின் சர்வதேச அளவில் சிறந்து விளங்கும் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களின் பட்டியலை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. இதில் இந்தியாவைச் சேர்ந்த 49 பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் இடம் பிடித்துள்ளன.
    • பெங்களுரில் உள்ள இந்தியன் இன்ஸ்டிட்யூட் ஆப் சயின்ஸ் 14வது இடத்திலும், இந்தியன் இன்ஸ்டிட்யூட் ஆப் டெக்னாலஜி மும்பை 27வது இடத்திலும் உள்ளது.

  • டெல்லியில் நடைபெற்ற மத்திய அமைச்சரவை கூட்டத்தில், ரூ.3,600 கோடி செலவில், நாட்டில் 13 புதிய மத்தியப் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களை அமைக்க ஒப்புதல் அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன்படி, ஜம்மு-காஷ்மீரில் மட்டும் 2 பல்கலைக்கழகங்களும், மற்ற மாநிலங்களில் தலா ஒரு பல்கலைக்கழகமும் அமையவுள்ளது.

  • டெல்லியில் நடைபெற்ற 17வது டெல்லி சர்வதேச ஓபன் செஸ் போட்டியில் சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த சிறுவன் குகேஷ் (12 வயது) சாம்பியன் பட்டம் வென்றார். இதன் மூலம் உலகின் இரண்டாம் இளம் செஸ் கிராண்ட் மாஸ்டர் என்ற சாதனையை படைத்துள்ளார்.

  • 2015 முதலான 3 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு, அமைதிக்கான காந்தி விருதை மத்திய அரசு அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது.
    • இதில் 2015ம் ஆண்டுக்கான காந்தி விருது, விவேகானந்த கேந்திரத்துக்கு (கன்னியாகுமரி) அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
    • 2016ம் ஆண்டுக்கான காந்தி விருதுக்கு அக்ஷய பாத்திரம் அறக்கட்டளை மற்றும் சுலப் இன்டர்நேஷனல் ஆகிய இரு அமைப்புகளுக்கும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
    • 2017ம் ஆண்டுக்கான காந்தி விருது ஏகாய் அபியான் அறக்கட்டளைக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

  • கர்நாடக தலைமை நீதிபதி தினேஷ் மகேஸ்வரி, தில்லி உயர்நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதி சஞ்சீவ் கன்னா ஆகியோர் உச்சநீதிமன்ற நீதிபதிகளாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டனர். இதற்கான ஒப்புதலை குடியரசுத் தலைவர் ராம்நாத் கோவிந்த் வழங்கினார்.

National News

  • Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off SAKSHAM (Sanrakshan Kshmata Mahotsav) Vans to promote and create awareness among people on the need of oil and gas conservation for the future and the methods to do it.
    • The van will travel to 30 districts to create awareness on conservation of energy for a better future.

 

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development is organised the three-day 6th ‘Women of India Organic Festival’ at Leisure Valley, Chandigarh, to celebrate and promote women farmers and entrepreneurs in the organic sector from the remotest parts of India.
    • The festival aims to encourage Indian women entrepreneurs and farmers to connect with more buyers and thus, empower them through financial inclusion, while promoting organic culture in India.

 

  • The Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Shri Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Global Aviation Summit (GAS) 2019 which is being organised by Ministry of Civil Aviation in association with Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Mumbai.
    • The Vision 2040 for aviation sector and the Air Cargo Policy was launched during the summit.

 

  • “Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana” scheme was launched by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. It is Rs. 50,000 crore farm loan waiver scheme for farmers. The loan waiver forms could be submitted till February 5 and farmers would start getting the benefits from February 22.

 

  • The 55-day long Kumbh Mela 2019 commenced with the Shahi Snan of Akharas at Sangam- the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mystical Saraswati -at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. “Chalo Kumbh Chale” was the slogan used by the devotees commencing the mela.
    • An area of 20 lakh sq. ft area, was designated for the street art projects under an initiative by Kumbh Mela Authority called “Paint my city”

 

International News

  • The World Economic Forum released its 14th edition of annual Global Risk Report 2019 ahead of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos.
    • The report’s findings are based on the annual Global Risks Perception Survey, which asks the Forum’s network of business, government, civil society and thought leaders to gauge the risks facing our world.

 

Science & Technology

  • The SpaceX-CRS-16 Dragon cargo craft departed from the International Space Station and making a remark as the first night splashdown and recovered theDragon vehicle.SpaceX-CRS-16 Dragon transported more than 2,500 kilograms (5,600 pounds) of cargo to the space station and orbited Earth for five weeks.
    • SpaceX-CRS-16 Dragon is a Commercial Resupply Service mission to the International Space Station launched by NASA.

 

Economy

  • The Union Cabinet approved capital infusion of 6,000 crore in Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) through recapitalisation bonds to boost the bank’s capacity in export financing.

 

Awards

  • Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani who is also the Richest Indian, has been featured in the Top “Global Thinkers 2019” ranking released by the prestigious Foreign Policy publishing.
    • The Full list of ‘Global Thinkers 2019’ will be published on 22nd January 2019 at the 10th Anniversary of Global Thinkers listing.

 

  • Software engineer and mountaineer Satyarup Siddhanta, hailing from Haridevpur in South Kolkata, became the first Indian and youngest man to climb the seven highest peaks and volcanic summits across all continents.
    • This feat was attained after he conquered Antartica’s highest point, Mount Sidley.

 

Appointment

  • The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of photo-messaging app Snapchat, Tim Stone, has called it quits after just eight months of being appointed at the post.
    • Stone will however continue to serve as Snapchat’s CFO while the company searches for a replacement.

 

Sports

  • Shri Jaswantsinh Sumanbhai Bhabhor Minister of State for Tribal Affairs launched the 1st National Level Sports Meet for the students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) at G.M.C Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
    • The Minister also launched an app ‘EMRS Sports Meet’ dedicated on the occasion.
