தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் சார்பில் தியாகிகள் சங்கரலிங்கனார், தியாகி செண்பகராமன் ஆகியோரை போற்றும் விதமாக, 2018 ஜூலை 16 அன்று தியாகிகள் தினம் கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.
ஜுலை-18- மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட் என்ற பெயரை மாற்றி தமிழ்நாடு என்ற பெயர் சூட்டுவதற்காக தீர்மானம் தமிழக சட்ட சபையில் நிறைவேறிய நாள்.
1967ம் ஆண்டு ஜுலை 18ம் நாள் மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட் என்ற பெயரை மாற்றி “தமிழ்நாடு” எனப் பெயர் சூட்ட அரசியல் சட்டத்தை திருத்தும் தீர்மானத்தை தமிழக சட்டசபையில் அறிஞர் அண்ணா கொண்டு வந்தார்.
14-1-1969 அன்று மெட்ராஸ் மாநிலம் தமிழ்நாடு என்று பெயர் மாற்றப்பட்டு அரசாணை வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

ஈஸ்வர் சர்மா பிரிட்டனில் யோகாசபை பயிற்சியில் சாதனைகளையும், உலக மாணவர்கள் விளையாட்டுப் போட்டியில் பிரிட்டன் சார்பில் பங்கேற்று தங்கப்பதக்கம் வென்றுள்ளார்.

பிஎஸ்எல்வி (PSLV), ஜி.எஸ்.எல்.வி (GSLV), GSLV -3 ஆகிய ஏவுகணைகளை திறம்பட விண்ணில் செலுத்த இந்த என்ஜின் பயன்படும்.
இந்த என்ஜின் பொருத்தப்பட்ட ஜிஎஸ்எல்வி – 3 இராக்கெட் மூலம் ஜிசார்ட் – 29 செயற்கைகோளை முதன்முதலாக அனுப்ப இஸ்ரோ திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது.

2022-ம் ஆண்டிற்கான உலககோப்பை கால்பந்து போட்டி (FIFA – 2018) கத்தாரில் நடைபெற உள்ளது. இது 2022 ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 21 முதல் டிசம்பர் 18 வரை நடைபெற உள்ளது. இப்போட்டி அரேபிய நாடுகளில் நடைபெறுவது இதுவே முதன் முறையாகும்.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the ‘Paudhagiri’ campaign, aimed at increasing the green cover in the state. Under this campaign, 22 lakh students from class 6 to 12 of all government and private schools in Haryana will plant a sapling each during three months of monsoon — July, August and September.
One of the country’s first Defence incubators will come up in Hyderabad, which is India’s missile development centre and fast emerging the hub for aerospace industries.
The Telangana State government proposes to accommodate the Defence incubator in the upcoming Phase-2 of the T-Hub.
ISRO successfully conducted a ground test of its high thrust version of the Vikas Engine that would improve the payload capability of the space agency’s launch vehicles.
The test for a duration of 195 seconds was conducted by scientists at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
On 16th July 2018, the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired from an Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.
BrahMos is a joint venture of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPOM of Russia.

South Africa has unveiled the 64-dish MeerKAT radio telescope, slated to be the world’s largest and most powerful telescope on its completion in 2030. Built for $330 million, MeerKAT will be integrated into an array of 3,000 dishes spread in a square-kilometre area. It is said to have 50 times better resolution than NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope when fully operational.
Militaries of India and Pakistan will be part of a mega anti-terror drill in Russia named “Peace Mission” in August 2018 which is being organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
It will be for the first time since Independence that India and Pakistan will both be part of a military exercise.

The International Monetary Fund said India remains a key driver of global growth. However, the World Economic Outlook forecast cut India’s GDP outlook one-tenth for this year to 7.3 per cent and three-tenths for next year to 7.5 per cent.
