மத்திய மாசுக்கட்டுப்பாட்டு வாரியம் (Central pollution control Board) தனது காற்றுத் தர குறியீட்டில் (Air quality Index) 62 நகரங்களில் ஹரியானா மாநிலத்தில் குருகிராம் நகரினை இந்தியாவின் அதிக மாசுபட்ட நகரமாக அறிவித்துள்ளது.

உலக மனித நேய தினம் – ஆகஸ்ட் 19 (World Humanitarian Day)
ஆண்டுதோறும் ஆகஸ்ட் 19ம் தேதி உலக மனிதநேய தினம் கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.
2003 ஆகஸ்டு 19ம் தேதி ஈராக் நாட்டின் பாக்தாத் நகரில், பிரேசில் நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த ஐக்கிய நாடு அவை சிறப்பு பிரதிநிதி செர்சியோ வெய்ரா டீமெல்லா (Sergio Vieira de mello) உட்பட 20 பேர் குண்டு வெடிப்பில் கொல்லப்பட்டனர்.
இதன் நினைவாக ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அவை 2008 ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஆகஸ்ட் 19ம் தேதியை “உலக மனிதநேய தினமாக அறிவித்துள்ளது.

இந்திய ரிசர்வ வங்கியால் நடத்தப்பட்ட 2016-2017ம் ஆண்டுக்கான உள்நாட்டு பணம் அனுப்புதலுக்கான கணக்கெடுப்பில் ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகம் (UAE) முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது.

ஏரோ ஜெல் (Aerogel) – அறிவியலாளர்கள், பீர் தயாரிப்பின் போது வரும் கழிவுப் பொருட்களிலிருந்து அதிக வெப்ப ஏற்புத் திறனுடைய ஒளி ஊடுருவக் கூடிய, மீத்திறன் காப்பு கூழ்மமான (Super Insulating transparent gel) ஏரோஜெல்-லை (Aerogel) உருவாக்கியுள்ளனர்.
இது சந்திரன் அல்லது செவ்வாய் போன்ற புவிக்கு அப்பாலான வாழ்விடங்களில் பசுமை வீடு அமைக்க உதவுவதாக விஞ்ஞானிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

UIDAI announced a phased rollout of live face recognition feature with telecom service providers from September 15. This would be used as an additional mode of authentication by the telecom service providers. The ‘live face photo’ capture would be done to obtain eKYC for issuance of mobile SIMs.
The Authority had earlier planned to roll out face recognition feature from July 1, a target that was later pushed to August 1.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to form a three-member committee to look into the draft food labelling and display regulations. The regulations have proposed making red colour-coded labels mandatory on packaged food products which are high in fat, sugar and salt contents.
The expert panel will be led by B Sesikeran, former director of National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), and comprise current NIN director Hemalatha and AIIMS’ Nikhil Tandon.
The Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh has proposed to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization to declare the year 2019 as international year of millets. This will promote cultivation by amending cropping patterns of areas which are especially susceptible to climate change.
India is celebrating 2018 as the national year of millets.

The 11th World Hindi Conference begins in Mauritius. Prime Minister of Mauritius Praveen Kumar Jagannath will inaugurate the conference in Port Louis.
“Hindi World and Indian Culture” is the theme of conference.
World Hindi Conference was started in 1975 to make Hindi language a medium of service and knowledge and enable it to move forward with the time.
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan took oath as Pakistan’s new prime minister. Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), secured 176 votes while his only rival and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Sharif got 96 votes, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser announced.

Delhi government’s additional director of health S K Arora has been awarded the prestigious WHO World No Tobacco Day 2017 Award for his extraordinary contribution towards tobacco control.
The National Health Policy 2017 of the Government of India has set targets of relative reduction in tobacco prevalence by 15 per cent by 2020 and 30 per cent by 2025.

ISRO’s Aditya-L1 mission, India’s first mission to study the solar corona, is planned to be launched in 2019-2020, by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-XL) from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
Aditya – L1: Aditya – L1 will be inserted in a halo orbit around the Lagrangian point 1 (L1) that is 1.5 million km from the Earth. Solar corona is the outer layers of the Sun.
Lagrangian point is a point where the attraction by the Sun and the Earth becomes equal. This point does not experience gravitational force.

The 2018 Asian Games began on August 18 with a grand opening ceremony at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. The 18th Asian Games is to be held in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang and this will be the first time the Asian Games are co-hosted in two cities.
Motto of the games is “Energy of Asia”.
