  • ஆந்திர மாநிலத்தில், 150 ஹெக்டர் பரப்பளவில் நகரவனம் என்ற பெயரில் மரம் நடும் திட்டம் தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
    • நகரவனம் என்ற பெயரிலான மரம் நட்டுப் பராமரிக்கும் திட்டம் செப்டம்பர் 22 அன்று திருப்பதியில், அம்மாநில முதல்வரால் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

    • பிரதமர் ஜன ஆரோக்ய யோஜனா என அழைக்கப்படும் இந்த மருத்துவ காப்பீட்டு திட்டம் 3, மாநிலங்கள் மற்றும் யூனியன் பிரதேசங்களில் அமல்படுத்த உள்ளது.

    • மத்திய அரசும் மாநில அரசும் இணைந்து ஒவ்வொரு ஏழைக் குடும்பத்துக்கும் ஆண்டுக்கு 100 முதல் 1200 வரை காப்பீடு செலுத்தி, ஒரு குடும்பத்துக்கு ரூ.5 லட்சம் வரை இலவச மருத்துவ சிகிச்சை பெறும் வகையில் இந்த மருத்துவ காப்பீடு திட்டம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

உலக நிகழ்வுகள்

 

  • உலகில் தீவிரவாதத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட நாடுகள் குறித்த ஆய்வறிக்கையை அமெரிக்க வெளியுறவுத்துறை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.
    • இந்த ஆய்வறிக்கையில் ஈராக், ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் நாடுகளுக்கு அடுத்தப்படியாக தீவிரவாதத்தால் அதிகம் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட 3வது நாடாக இந்தியா உள்ளது.

 

  • சூரியனைச் சுற்றிவரும் நுண்கோளில் ஒன்றான ரியுகு, பற்றிய ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொள்வதற்காக ஜப்பான் விண்வெளி அமைப்பான JAXA அமைப்பானது ‘ஹாயாபுஸா-2’ என்னும் ஆய்வுகலத்தை ஜுன் 27 அன்று விண்ணில் செலுத்தப்பட்டது. இந்த ஆய்வுகலம் செப்டம்பர் 22-அன்று வெற்றிகரமாக ரியுகுவில் தரையிறங்கியுள்ளது. இதன் மூலம், நுண்கோளில் இறங்கி சோதனை செய்த முதல் கண்காணிப்பு ஆய்வு கலம் என்ற சிறப்பை ‘ஹாயாபுஸா-2’ பெற்றுள்ளது.

  • அரசு தொழிலாளர் காப்பீட்டு நிறுவனம், அடல் பிமித் வியக்தி கல்யாண் யோஜனா என்ற திட்டத்தை, தொழிலாளர்களுக்கான அரசு காப்பீட்டுச் சட்டம் – 1948ன் கீழ் காப்பீடு பெற்ற தொழிலாளர்களுக்காக அங்கீகரித்துள்ளது.

NATIONAL NEWS

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Ayushman Bharat, world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. With the roll out of the Centre’s flagship scheme which has been renamed as PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the Narendra Modi-led NDA government aims to provide healthcare facilities to over 10 crore families covering urban and rural poor.
    • The scheme will become operational from September 25 on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. The ambitious scheme offers an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh, which will cover 10 crore poor families or almost 50 crore persons.

 

  • The first General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance, ISA, will be inaugurated on the 2nd of October in Delhi. The Ministerial level Assembly will be held in Greater Noida. The ISA is a major initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in contributing to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and massive deployment of solar energy.

 

  • Centenary celebrations to commemorate hundred years of liberation of Haifa in Israel by the Indian troops in 1918 culminates with a grand function in New Delhi. The Battle of Haifa is being commemorated in Israel, Delhi and Jaipur.
    • The Indian Army commemorates September 23 every year as Haifa Day to pay its respects to the two brave Indian Cavalry Regiments, Mysore and Jodhpur Lancers, that helped liberate the city following a dashing cavalry action by the 15th Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade.

 

  • World Rhino Day is being celebrated in Assam. State Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya along with others will take part in the main event to be held in Guwahati. There are over 2600 rhinos that have been found in Assam as of now.

 

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pakyong Airport in Sikkim on September 24, nine years after the foundation stone was laid. The airport is the hilly state’s first and only airport. Currently, the nearest airport for the people of Sikkim is 124 kilometre (km) away in Bagdogra, West Bengal.
    • The airport is located around 60 km from the Indo-China border. It is constructed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

 

  • India successfully conducted an interceptor missile test off the Odisha coast, achieving a major milestone in developing a two-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system. According to Defence sources, the interceptor was launched from Abdul Kalam Island of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).
    • This Prithvi Defence Vehicle (PDV) mission is for engaging the targets in theexo-atmosphere region at an altitude above 50 kilometres of the earth’s atmosphere.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  • Opposition leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the Maldives’ presidential election, a surprise defeat for President Abdulla Yameen. Results released by the Elections Commission showed Solih had secured 3% of the popular vote.
    • The poll is being closely watched by regional rivals India and China, who are jostling to influence Indian Ocean nations.

 

  • Nepal is likely to be the first country in the world to double its tiger population. On the occasion of National Conservation Day on 23 September, Nepal announced that there are now an estimated 235 wild tigers in the country, nearly doubling the baseline of around 121 tigers in 2009.

 

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has arrived in New York to represent India at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly and hold several bilateral and multilateral meetings with her global counterparts.

 

ECONOMY

  • India has made momentous progress in reducing multidimensional poverty with its incidence almost halving between 2005-06 and 2015-16, climbing down to 27.5 per cent from 54.7 per cent, according to estimates from the 2018 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI).
    • Jharkhand made the biggest strides among all states in reducing multidimensional poverty while Delhi, Kerala and Goa have the lowest incidence of multidimensional poverty.

 

SPORTS

  • AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be hosted by India from 13-25 November 2018 in New Delhi. This championship was last held in India in 2006 and India made its best ever performance that year. India had topped the medal tally with 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal.
    • The first edition of AIBA women’s world championship was held in Scranton, Unites States in 2001.
  • Belgium has joined France in number one position on the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) rankings released on 20th September 2018. This is the first time in the 25-year history of FIFA rankings, the first spot is shared.

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Anil Kumar Chaudhary‘s name as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India His tenure as CMD of SAIL is likely to be for a little over 2 years.

  • On 23rd September 2018, the first International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) was observed throughout the world.
    • United Nations General Assembly declared 23 September as the International Day of Sign Languages. 23 September was chosen to commemorate the formation of World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) on 23 September 1951.
    • Theme: for International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) 2018: “With Sign Language, Everyone is Included!”
