• ஸ்டெர்லைட் ஆலையை ஆய்வு செய்வதற்காக ஓய்வு பெற்ற நீதிபதி எஸ்.ஜே. வசீப்தர் தலைமையில் மத்திய மாசுக் கட்டுப்பாட்டு வாரியத்தைச் சேர்ந்த உறுப்பினர், மத்திய சுற்றுச்சூழல் மற்றும் வனத்துறை அமைச்சகத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு உறுப்பினர் ஆகியோரைக் கொண்ட குழு அமைக்கப்பட்டது.
  • ஆனால், ஆய்வுக் குழுவின் தலைவராக நியமிக்கப்பட்ட ‘வசீப்தர்’ பதவியை ஏற்க மறுத்ததை அடுத்து ஸ்டெர்லைட் ஆலையை ஆய்வு செய்யும் குழுவின் தலைவராக ஓய்வு பெற்ற தலைமை நீதிபதி ‘தருண் அகர்வால் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். இவர் மேகாலாயாவின் முன்னாள் தலைமை நீதிபதி ஆவார்.

 

 

இந்திய நிகழ்வுகள்

 

• வெளிநாடுகளில் இருந்து சுற்றுலா பயணிகள் அதிகம் வருகை தரும் மாநிலங்களின் பட்டியலில் தமிழ்நாடு இரண்டாவது இடத்தைப் பெற்றுள்ளது.
  • இப்பட்டியலில் மகாராஷ்டிரா மாநிலம் முதலிடத்திலும், உத்திரப் பிரதேச மாநிலம் 3-வது இடத்திலும் உள்ளது.
• குறிப்பு:
  • வெளிநாட்டுப் பயணிகள் அதிகம் வருகை தரும் நாடுகளின் பட்டியலில் வங்கதேசம் முதலிடம் பிடித்துள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

 

 

• ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் பொதுச்சபையின் வருடாந்திரக் கூட்டத்தில் நிலையான விவசாய வேளாண்மைக்கு நிதியளித்தல் உலகளாவிய (Financing Sustainable Agriculture; Global Challenges and Opportunities) சவால்கள் மற்றும் வாய்ப்புகள்” என்ற தலைப்பில் உரையாற்றுவதற்காக ஆந்திர பிரதேச மாநில முதல்வர் சந்திரபாபு நாயுடு-வை ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அழைத்துள்ளது.

 

 

• குடியிருப்புகள் மற்றும் பொதுத்துறை நிறுவனங்களில் ஆற்றல் சேமிப்பை ஊக்குவிக்கும் விதமாகவும், எரிசக்தி திறன் சேவைகள் லிமிடெட்டின் (EESL – Energy Efficiency Services Limited) திறனை அதிகரிக்கும் விதமாகவும் வணிக நிதிக்கான அணுகலை அதிகரிக்கவும், இந்தியா, உலக வங்கியிடம் 220 மில்லியன் டாலர் கடன் ஒப்பந்தத்தில் கையெழுத்திட்டுள்ளது.

 

 

• இந்தியா மற்றும் ஆசியன் (ASEAN) நாடுகளுக்கிடையேயான வர்த்தக மற்றும் பொருளாதார மேம்பாடு போன்றவற்றை உள்ளடக்கிய 6வது பிராந்திய வரிவான பொருளாதார கூட்டு(RCEP – Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) என்னும் வர்த்தக மந்திரிகள் மாநாடு (6th RCEP Trade Minister Meeting) சிங்கப்பூரில் நடைபெற்றது.
  • இம்மாநாடு இந்திய வர்த்தக மற்றும் கைத்தொழில் அமைச்சர் சுரேஷ் பாபு தலைமையில் நடைபெற்றது.

 

 

உலக நிகழ்வுகள் 

 

• ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் நடைபெறும் மிகப்பெரிய கடற்பயிற்சியான KAKADU – 2018-ன் 14வது பதிப்பு ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் டார்வின் துறைமுகத்தில் ஆகஸ்ட் 29-முதல் செப்டம்பர் 18 வரை நடைபெற உள்ளது.
  • KAKADU – 2018 – என்னும் கடற்பயிற்சியில் பல நாடுகளின் கப்பல்கள் பங்கு பெறுகின்றன. இப்பயிற்சியில் இந்தியாவின் INS-சஹாயாத்ரி (INS-Sahyadri) பங்கு பெற உள்ளது.

 

 

• பிரேசில், ரஷியா, இந்தியா, சீனா, தென்னாப்பிரிக்கா ஆகிய நாடுகள் (பிரிக்ஸ் நாடுகள்) இணைந்து உருவாக்கிய NDB – New Development Bank) எனப்படும் புதிய மேம்பாட்டு வங்கிகக்கு சர்வதேச தரச்சான்று நிறுவனமான ஸ்டாண்டர்டு அண்ட் பூர் (S & P) நிறுவனம் இந்த வங்கிக்கு ஏஏ பிளஸ் (AA Plus) தரச் சான்றை வழங்கியுள்ளது.
• குறிப்பு:
  • NDB ஆனது 2014ம் ஆண்டு வங்கி தொடங்க திட்டமிட்டு 2015 ஜூலையில் செயல்பட ஆரம்பித்தது.

வர்த்தக நிகழ்வுகள் 

 

• இந்தியாவின் மொத்த உள்நாட்டு உற்பத்தி 2018ம் ஆண்டில் முதல் காலாண்டில் 8.2 சதவீகிதமாக உள்ளது என மத்திய அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது.
  • கடந்த 2017ம் ஆண்டு முதல் காலாண்டில் 5.59 சதவிகிதம் மட்டுமே ஜி.டி.பி வளர்ச்சி இருந்தது.
  •  2017ம் ஆண்டு இறுதி காலாண்டில் நாட்டின் ஜி.டி.பி 7.7 சதவீகிதமாக இருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

 

 

விருதுகள்

 

• ஆசியாவின் நோபல் பரிசு என்றழைக்கப்படும் இராமன் மகசேசே என்னும் உயரிய விருதுக்கு தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்ட இரு இந்தியர்களான மும்பையைச் சேர்ந்த ‘பரத் வட்வானி’ மற்றும் ஜம்மு – காஷ்மீர் மாநிலத்தின் ‘சோனம் வாங்க்’ உட்பட 6 பேருக்கு பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் தலைநகர் மணிலாவில் நடைபெற்ற விழாவில் இராமன் மகசேசே விருது’ ஆகஸ்ட் 31 அன்று வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  குறிப்பு
  • பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் நாட்டின் மறைந்த அதிபர் இராமன் மகசேசே நினைவாகவும், அரசியல் நேர்மை, மக்கள் சேவை போன்றவற்றை வளரும் நாடுகளில் பரப்பும் வகையிலும் 1957ம் ஆண்டு முதல் ராமன் மகசேசே விருது வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

NATIONAL NEWS

• NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, and Chief Executive Officer Shri. Amitabh Kant, unveiled a series of events to take place in the ‘Mobility Week’ from 31 August to 6 September 2018, in the run up to MOVE: The Global Mobility Summit 2018 on 7 and 8 September 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Summit will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

 

• In Madhya Pradesh, in a first of its kind initiative, “Mil -Banche”, an interactive programme between schools and society is being organized in all government schools of the state.
  • This programme is being organized in the state for multi-dimensional development of children through language skill up-gradation, reading other books in addition to textbooks, developing interest in understanding and other co-curricular activities in government schools.

 

• The National Mission on Government e Marketplace (GeM) will be launched on 5th September 2018 to accelerate the adoption and use of GeM by major central Ministries, State Governments and their agencies. e Marketplace is an online marketplace to facilitate procurement of goods and services by various Ministries and agencies of the Government.
  • The aim of the National Mission is to promote inclusiveness, transparency and efficiency in public procurement and achieve cashless, contactless and paperless transaction.

 

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $346 million loan to finance improvement of over 400 kilometers of state highways that will enhance connectivity and access to economic centers across 12 districts in Karnataka.

 

• Nearly two years after a resolution was passed in the Maharashtra Assembly, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has finally been rechristened as Chhatrapati Shivaji ‘Maharaj’ International Airport. Confirming the development, Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said the long-pending demand of the state had been fulfilled.
  • Mumbai’s airport was formerly known as Sahar International Airport. It was renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in 1999.

 

• To promote a culture of innovation and research in higher education, the human resource development (HRD) ministry launched the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), Union minister Prakash Javadekar
  • Named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the ARIIA “will rank educational institutions for innovation output based on all major indicators and parameters used globally”.

 

• Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) made public 13 standardised state-of-the-art ship designs suitable for large barge haulage on river Ganga (National Waterway-1). This marks attaining a critical milestone in the growth of the country’s Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 

• The Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu is leading the Indian delegation for the 6th RCEP Trade Ministers’ Meeting which begins in
  • The Minister will participate in the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) meeting consisting of 10 ASEAN countries and six ASEAN FTA partners namely, India, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

 

• The Indian naval stealth warship Sahyadri entered the Port of Darwin in Australia to take part in the maritime exercise KAKADU. It is held biennially in Darwin and the Northern Australian Exercise Areas (NAXA).
  • The exercise KAKADU was started in 1993, is a premier multilateral regional maritime engagement hosted by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and supported by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

 

ECONOMY

• India’s economy grew at an impressive 8.2% in the first quarter of 2018-19 financial year ending June 30 on the back of a strong core performance and a healthy base, government data showed on 31 August. This is the highest growth in two years and strongest since the first quarter of 2016.

 

AWARDS

• Eminent neurosurgeon Dr B.K. Misra has been named for this year’s prestigious Dr B.C. Roy National Award as an Eminent Medical Person of the Year award.
  • The highest medical honour of India, instituted by the Medical Council of India in 1962, it will be given away by President Ram Nath Kovind on July 1 next year, the National Doctors Day.

 

• Two Indian nationals, Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk, were given the Ramon Magsaysay award, popularly known as Asia’s Nobel Prize.

• Congress MP Kapil Sibal will be releasing a new book titled “Shades of Truth: A Journey Derailed” arguing that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government “revels in the past” and debunking the claim of “Acche Din” that the BJP made in the run up to 2014 general elections.
