• துப்புரவு, குடிநீர், சுகாதாரம், குழந்தைகள் நலம், மகப்பேறு ஆரோக்கியம் மற்றும் பெண்களுக்கு அதிகாரமளித்தல் ஆகியவற்றை சிறப்பான முறையில் செயல்படுத்தியதற்காக நீலகிரி மாவட்டமானது JRD டாடா நினைவு விருதைப் பெற்றுள்ளது.
  • இந்த விருதானது 1997 ஆம் ஆண்டில் சிறப்பாக செயல்படும் மாநிலங்கள் மற்றும் மாவட்டங்களை கவுரவிப்பதற்காக இந்திய மக்கள் தொகை நிறுவனத்தினால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது.

• கர்நாடகாவின் பெங்களுருவில்; உள்ள கெம்ப் போர்ட் மாலில் இந்தியாவின் முதல் இணைய சங்கேதப் பணத்திற்கான ATM (India’s First Bitcoin ATM) திறக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • இந்த ATM ஆனது வாடிக்கையாளர்களுக்கு குறைந்த பட்சம் ரூ.1000 அளவுக்கு செலுத்தவும் பெறவும் மற்றும் மற்ற இணைய சங்கேதப் பணங்களான பிட்காயின், ஈத்தரம் மற்றும் பல்வேறு பரிமாற்றம் செய்யவும் அனுமதிக்கிறது.

 

 

• சுற்றுச்சூழல் மாசுபாடு தடுப்பு மற்றும் கட்டுப்பாட்டு ஆணையமானது (EPCA – Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority) தேசியத் தலைநகரான டெல்லி பிராந்தியங்களில் காற்று மாசுபாட்டை கட்டுப்படுத்துவதற்காக ஒரு தரப்பட்ட பதில் செயல் திட்டத்தை (GRAP – Graded Response Action Plan) செயல்படுத்தத் தொடங்கியது.

• பாதுகாப்புத் துறை அமைச்சர் நிர்மலா சீதாராமன், முன்னாள் குடியரசுத் தலைவர் மற்றும் ஏவுகணை நாயகரான டாக்டர்.ஏ.பி.ஜே. அப்துல்கலாமின் 87வது பிறந்த நாளை முன்னிட்டு (2018 அக்டோபர் 15) கலாமின் பார்வை – கனவிற்கான தைரியம் என்ற கருத்தின் அடிப்படையில் பாதுகாப்பு ஆராய்ச்சி மேம்பாட்டு மையத்தின் இணைய தளத்தை நாட்டிற்காக அர்பணித்துள்ளார்.

 

 

உலக நிகழ்வுகள்

 

• டிசம்பர் மாதம் சீனாவின் செங்டு பகுதியில் இந்தியா மற்றும் சீனாவிற்கு இடையே Hand – in – Hand (ஹேண்ட் – இன் – ஹேண்ட்) இராணுவப் போர் பயிற்சியின் 7-வது பதிப்பு மீண்டும் தொடங்கவுள்ளது. 2017 ஆம் ஆண்டில் டோக்லாம் சிக்கலுக்கு பிறகு இந்த வருடாந்திரப் பயிற்சியானது ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

• சமூக தொழில் முனைவரான சுஹைல் கு.தாண்டன், சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டியின் விளையாட்டு மற்றும் சமூக செயற் சங்க குழுவின் கிராண்ட் விருதினை தனது விளையாட்டு அபிவிருத்திற்கான பங்களிப்பிற்காக வென்றுள்ளார்.
  • இவர் ப்ரோ ஸ்போர்ட் டெவலப்மெண்ட் (PSD –PRO Sport Development) நிறுவனத்தின் நிறுவனர் மற்றும் மார்த்தா ஃபரேல் பவுண்டேசனின் இயக்குநர் ஆவார்.

 

 

அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பம்

 

• சீனாவில் நகர்புறங்களில் மின்சாரச் செலவினங்களைக் குறைப்பதற்காக தெரு விளக்குகளுக்குப் பதிலாக, மனிதனால் உருவாக்கப்படும் செயற்கைச் சந்திரனை, ஜீசாங் சாட்டிலைட் லாஞ்ச் சென்டரிலிருந்து சீனாவானது 2020ம் ஆண்டு அறிமுகப்படுத்த உள்ளது.
  • இந்த செயற்கை நிலாவானது உண்மையான நிலவுடன் சேர்ந்து வெளிச்சம் பாய்ச்சும். இவை நிலவைக் காட்டிலும் 8 மடங்கு வெளிச்சம் உள்ளதாக இருக்கும் என சீன ஊடகம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

 

விருதுகள்

 

• அண்ணா ப்ரன்ஸ்(Anna Burns) என்பவர் தனது மில்க்மேன் என்ற புதினத்திற்காக புனைவுக் கதைகளுக்கான பெருமை மிகு மேன்புக்கர் பரிசினை வென்றுள்ளார்.
  • உலகம் முழுவதிலும் உள்ள ஆங்கில மொழி நூலாசிரியர்களுக்கான இந்தப் பரிசினை வடக்கு அயர்லாந்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஆசிரியராக முதலில் வெல்வது இவரேயாவார்.

• தேசிய காவலர் நினைவு தினம் (National Police Commemoration Day-NPCD) – அக்டோபர் 21
  • 1959ம் ஆண்டு லடாக் பகுதியில் சீன படையினரால் கொல்லப்பட்ட காவலர்களுக்கு மரியாதை செலுத்தும் வகையில் ஆண்டுதோறும் அக்டோபர் 21ம் நாள் காவலர் நினைவு நாள் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
  • இந்நாளின் நினைவாக பிரதமர் மோடி டெல்லியில் அமைக்கப்பட்ட காவலர் அருங்காட்சியகத்தை நாட்டிற்கு அர்ப்பணித்துள்ளார்.

NATIONAL NEWS

• NITI Aayoghas organized the fourth edition of NITI Lecture Series at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 4th edition of NITI Lecture series in which the keynote address was delivered by Jensen Huang, President and Co-Founder, NVIDIA Corporation. 
  • The theme for this year is “AI for ALL: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Inclusive Growth”.

 

• On Police Commemoration Day, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, dedicated the National Police Memorialto the nation.  He also announced an annual award in the name of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, to honour the police and paramilitary personnel, involved in disaster response operations.
  • PM Modi also commemorated the 75th anniversaryof Netaji’s declaration of the formation of India’s first independent government- the Azad Hind Government on October 21, 1943.

 

• 4Himalayan peaks near Gangotri have been named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This was done during an expedition conducted by Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and the tourism department.
  • They climed the peaks located at 6,557, 6,566, 6,160 and 6,100 metres on the right flank of Gangotri glacier, and named them Atal-1, 2, 3 and 4, while hoisting the national flag. The peaks are located near Sudarshan and Saifi peaks in Raktvan valley.

 

• India’s longest river bridge to be built on Brahmaputra river in Assam. It was announced that India’s longest river bridgewill be built across the Brahmaputra, connecting Dhubri in Assamto Phulbari in Meghalaya, by 2026-27. It will be a 3 km, four-lane bridge that will cut road travel by 203 km .
  • Currently, the longest river bridge in India, at 15km, is the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge which was opened in 2017.

 

• Aparliamentary panel will examine the functioning of retirement fund body Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), its coverage and recovery of arrears. The panel will be headed by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya.
  • Earlier, the panel had suggested that the EPFO shouldact as the sole regulator for all categories of provident funds, particularly private PF trusts.

 

• Angria, India’s first luxury cruise ship,has been inaugurated at Mumbai. Union minister for shipping Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged-off the cruise which will operate between Mumbai and Goa. 
  • Named after thefirst Maratha Navy Admiral Kanhoji Angre and the Angria bank coral reef near Vijaydurg, the luxury ship has 104 rooms, divided into eight different categories.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• A UN-backed fundhas approved more than 1 billion dollars for 19 new projects to help developing countries tackle climate change. Officials overseeing the South Korea-based Green Climate Fund stated the funding approved at the meeting in Manama includes projects linked to geothermal energy in Indonesia, greener cities in Europe and West Asia, and protection for coastal communities in India. 

 

• The seventhmeeting of education ministers of member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was heldin Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan. Participants in the meeting included education ministers from India, Kazakhsta, China, Kyrgyzisthan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India was represented by Minister of State (MoS) Human Resource Development Satyapal Singh.

 

• India, Japan and the U.S.are set to elevate the bilateral ‘Cope India’ air exercise to a trilateral format. The three countries already conduct naval war games under the expanded Malabar naval exercise. The U.S. had proposed a trilateral air exercise between India, Japan and the U.S. For this, the Cope India exercise will be elevated to a trilateral level in phases.
  • The next edition is scheduled to be held in December 2018 for which the Final Planning Conference to finalise the modalities of the exercise is scheduled in Kalaikunda, West Bengal. 

 

SPORTS

• Mumbaihas defeated Delhi by four wickets to win their third Vijay Hazare Trophy title at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Mumbai last won the trophy way back in 2006-07 when they defeated Rajasthan. Aditya Tare struck a fluent half-century. He was rewarded with Player of the match award.

 

• Spain’s Marc Marquez won MotoGP world champion for the fifth time in six years in the Japanese MotoGP. Honda factory rider becomes the youngest rider to win five premier class titles.
  • Marquez’s Repsol Honda teammate Cal Crutchlow of Britain finished second.

 

AWARDS

• Grammy-winning Hindustani classical music instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhattwill be honoured with the annual Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • The two-day Indian classical music festivalscheduled to be held on October 21-22, this year, will be dedicated to saint-musician-composer Pandit Kunwar Shyam, and celebrate the rich ‘Guru-Shishya’ tradition. It will be Organised by the Sursagar Society of Dilli Gharana.

 

• The Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an annual award in the name of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for police and paramilitary forces for commendable contributions in disaster relief operations. He announced this while dedicating the National Police Memorial to the nation in New Delhi on the occasion ofPolice Commemoration Day (21st October). 

 

BOOKS

• Veteran commentator and cricket statistician Vijayan Balalaunched his new book “Indian Sports: Conversations and Reflections”.  It is a compilation of interviews of eminent sportspersons he has conducted since 1971.
  • Earlier, he had published a book on Statistics called ‘Indian Test Cricket back in 1974’. In 2016, he authored a second book “The Complete Indian Sports Quiz”inaugurated by sports minister Rathore.
