NATIONAL NEWS

• The National Statistical Office conducted survey of Persons with disabilities in the country between the period July 2018 and December 2018.
  • The main objective of the survey is to estimate indicators of incidence and prevalence of disability, facilities available to persons with disability, age at onset of disability, arrangement of regular care giver, difficulties faced by the persons with disabilities, out of pocket expenses.

• India’s first largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate, – the Global Bio-India (GBI) Summit, 2019 concluded in New Delhi.

• Chief Minister N Biren along with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the 8th Inter- national Tourism Mart for North East Region at Hotel Imphal , Manipur.
  • The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in association with the North Eastern States is organising the “International Tourism Mart” (ITM) at Imphal, Manipur from 23 November to 25 November, 2019.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• The Chinese Government has issued warnings against import of cattle and related products from India. The warning comes after India submitted its notification about “lumpy skin disease” virus in cattle to the World Organization of Animal Health (OIE).
  • China does not officially import buffalo meat from India. However, a large quantity of beef gets smuggled into China through roads and ports.

SCIENCE AND TECH UPDATES

• Scientists at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad have demonstrated the role of a protein secretagogin (SCGN) in increasing insulin action in obesity-induced diabetes.
  • SCGN works as a functional insulin-binding protein with therapeutic potential against diabetes. SCGN binds to insulin and protects it from various stresses, increases its stability and adds to its action.
