• சூறாவளிப் புயல் – கஜா 
  • 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 16ம் தேதியன்று ‘கஜா’ என்ற சூறாவளிப் புயலானது தமிழக கடற்கரையை கடந்தது. இந்தப் புயலானது சென்னையிலிருந்து 300 கி.மீட்டருக்கு அப்பால் நாகப்பட்டினம் மற்றும் வேதாரண்யம் ஆகியவற்றிற்கு இடையே 180 கி.மீ. வேகத்துடன் கரையைக் கடந்தது.
  • தென்கிழக்கு ஆசியாவில் புயல்கள் வெவ்வேறு நாடுகளில் பெயரிடப்படுகின்றன. ஆந்திரா மற்றும் ஒடிஷா ஆகிய மாநிலங்களை தாக்கிய “டிட்லி” புயலானது பாகிஸ்தானில் பெயரிடப்பட்டது.
  • “கஜா” புயலானது இலங்கையில் பெயரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

 

 

இந்திய நிகழ்வுகள் 

 

• வர்த்தகம், பொருளாதாரம், அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்ப கூட்டிணைவு குறித்த 2 நாள் நடைபெறும் இந்திய – கிர்கிஸ்தான் அரசுகளுக்கிடையேயான ஆணையத்தின் 9வது அமர்வு புதுடெல்லியில் நடைபெற்றது.
  • இம்மாநாட்டின் 10வது அமர்வானது கிர்கிஸ்தான் குடியரசின் பிஷ்கெக் நகரில் அடுத்த ஆண்டு நடைபெற உள்ளது.

 

 

• இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வு மையத்தின் திறன் மேம்பாட்டு திட்ட அலுவலகம் சார்பில், பெங்களுரில் உள்ள இஸ்ரோ தலைமையகத்தில், விண்வெளி ஆராய்ச்சி நடவடிக்கையில் இஸ்ரோவுடன் கைகோர்த்துச் செயல்படுவதற்கு உற்பத்தி முகமைகளை ஒருங்கிணைப்பதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு, விண்வெளி உற்பத்திப் பொருள் உச்சி மாநாடு நவம்பர் 28ம் தேதி அன்று நடைபெற உள்ளது.

 

 

• இந்தியா – ஆஸ்திரேலியா நாடுகளுக்கிடையே முதலீடுகளை அதிகரித்தல், விவசாய ஆராய்ச்சி, கல்வி ஆகிய துறைகளில் ஒத்துழைப்பை மேம்படுத்துதல் உள்ளிட்ட 5 ஒப்பந்தங்கள் கையெழுத்தாகி உள்ளது. மேலும் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு உரிய சேவைகளை வழங்க இரு நாடுகளுக்கிடையே ஒப்பந்தம் கையெழுத்தாகியுள்ளது.
• குறிப்பு:
  • குடியரசுத் தலைவர் ராம்நாத் கோவிந்த் ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் சுற்றுப்பயணம் மேற்கொண்டுள்ளார். இந்தியக் குடியரசுத் தலைவர் ஒருவர், ஆஸ்திரேலியா செல்வது இதுவே முதல் முறையாகும்.

 

 

உலக நிகழ்வுகள் 

 

• 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்கான வார்த்தையாக ‘Toxic’’ எனும் அடைமொழிச் சொல்லை ஆக்ஸ்போர்டு அகராதி அறிவித்துள்ளது. இந்த அடைமொழிச் சொல்லானது “நச்சுத்தன்மை” என்ற பொருளில் வரையறை செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. இந்த சொல்லின் அதிகபட்ச பயன்பாடானது அதன் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பிற்கு வழி வகுத்துள்ளது.
  • 2017-ல் ‘Youthquake’ என்ற சொல்லும் 2016ல் ‘Post truth’ என்ற சொல்லும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

 

 

• சீன நாடானது, விண்வெளி சுற்றுச்சூழல் குறித்த ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொள்வதற்கான ஷியான் – 6 என்னும் செயற்கைகோள் மற்றும் 4 சிறியவகை செயற்கைக் கோள்களை “லாங் மார்ச் – 2டி” என்ற ஒரே ராக்கெட் மூலம் வெற்றிகரமாக, விண்ணில் செலுத்தியது.
  • மார்ச் – 2டி ராக்கெட் மூலம் அந்தச் செயற்கைக்கோள் கான்ஸீ மாகாணத்திலுள்ள ஏவுதளத்திலிருந்து வெற்றிகரமாக விண்ணில் செலுத்தப்பட்டன.

 

 

பொருளாதார நிகழ்வுகள்

 

• மிகப்பெரிய அளவில் உள்ள வாராக் கடன்களை சரி செய்வதற்காக ஒரு சொத்து மேலாண்மை நிறுவனத்தை (AMC – Asset Management Company) உருவாக்குவதாக சுனில் மேத்தா குழு அறிவித்துள்ளது. இந்த AMC-ன் பெயர் இந்திய சஷாகட் சொத்து மேலாண்மை நிறுவனமாகும்.
  • வங்கியல் துறையில் உள்ள பாதிப்பை சமாளிக்க இந்த சஷாக்ட் திட்டம் (Project Sashakt) தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• இந்தியா டுடே ஊடகம் சார்பில் விருதுகள் வழங்கும் விழா புதுடெல்லியில் குடியரசுத் துணைத் தலைவர் வெங்கையா நாயுடு தலைமையில் நடைபெற்றது.

  • 2018ம் ஆண்டின் இத்தினத்திற்கான கருத்துரு “நேர்மறையான ஆண் முன் மாதிரிகள்” என்பதாகும்.

NATIONAL NEWS

• The 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health will be held in Hyderabad next year. The conference ‘Ending the Emergency: Science, Leadership, Action’ which will be held from October 30 to November 2 next year, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease
  • The meeting culminated in a political declaration signed by world leaders committed to ending tuberculosis by 2030. The Indian government has committed to eliminate TB in India by 2025.

 

• Manipur Tourism is once again returning with one of their most important yearly event, the Manipur Sangai Festival.Celebrated each year, this is one of the most popular festivals of India.
  • Manipur Sangai Festival 2018 will be celebrated from November 21 to November 30, and it was first celebrated in the year 2010.

 

• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched month-long Nari Sashaktikaran Sankalp Abhiyan or Women Empowerment campaign in Lucknow. It is aimed to empower women in the state through various programmes including education, self-employment, health, cleanliness, nutrition.
  • For the awareness of the campaign, women officers and female staff of the state government will go door-to-door in villages to educate women about the schemes.

 

• Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stones of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Projects in 65 Geographical Areas (GAs) in 129 Districts under the 9th CGD Bidding Round recently awarded by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), remotely from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

 

• The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the IIM Calcutta Innovation Park to help facilitate incubation of start-ups primarily in the Eastern and North Eastern states. It will primarily be focusing on developing start-up ecosystems that make a socio-economic impact in the eastern and north eastern states.

 

• Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the extension of the term of the Commission examining the issue of Sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes (in the Central List) for six months beyond 30th November, 2018 and till 31st May 2019.

 

• Himachal Pradesh cabinet gave an approval to Sashakt Mahila Yojna that aims to empower rural women. The scheme also envisages to link rural women with sustainable livelihood opportunities and improve their skills.
  • The main aim is to empower rural women by providing them an interface for organization and socio-economic development.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• India and Australia signed five agreements to boost investments and enhance cooperation during President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to the country and he had also unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parramatta in Sydney. Kovind, the first Indian head of state to visit the country, held talks with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in Sydney to step up bilateral strategic ties.
  • The agreements were signed in the field of disability sector, education, trade-investment, scientific cooperation, agriculture and on higher education focussing on PhD by both the nations.

 

• The 12th world congress of the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM) will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal. “Mountain Medicine in the Heart of the Himalayas” will be the theme of 4 day congress. The program includes many aspects of mountain medicine, from science through to expedition medicine.
  • The biennial event mainly focuses on science and research aspects of high altitude medicine. It will also include practical workshops related to trekking, expedition medicine and clinical education.

 

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

• Google’s Next Billion Users (NBU) team announced the national roll-out of its Neighbourly app in Delhi and Bangalore. It will help people by sourcing local information from their neighbors about their neighbourhood in an easier way. The full-fledged app offers services in 8 vernacular languages and is a targeted app with a geographic radius between 1 to 5 km.

 

• Researchers, headed by IIT Professor Shiv Govind Singh, at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, developed smartphone-based system to detect adulteration in milk. This could be done by using an indicator paper that changes colour according to acidity which further can be incorporated with algorithms on a smartphone to accurately detect the colour change.

 

APPOINTMENT

• Tanzanian biologist Joyce Msuya has been appointed as acting Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) after the resignation of Erik Solheim. Erik Solheim resigned from the post of Executive director of UNEP following an internal audit report that said he had gobbled up $500,000 in unnecessary and budgeted travel expenses in just 22 months.

 

• Facebook-owned Messaging Company WhatsApp has appointed Abhijit Bose, co-founder and CEO of Payment device maker Ezetap as the head of WhatsApp India.

 

AWARDS

• The Manipal Academy of Higher Education won silver in the International Green Apple Award for evironmental best practice 2018. The award was received by Derrick I Joshua, assistant direct director, environment sustainability, MAHE at a ceremony at at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, London.

 

• The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has been selected among the winners of the Asia Environment Enforcement Awards for its work in combating trans-boundary environmental crime, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan This is the second time in a row that the awards are being given by UN Environment to India.
  • WCCB is a statutory multi-disciplinary body established by the government under the Environment Ministry to combat organized wildlife crime in the country.

 

• The prestigious International James Dyson award 2018 was won by Nicolas Orellana of Chile and Yaseen Noorani from Kenya for their innovative design ‘Urban wind turbine’ called O-Wind Turbine. It would help cities to harness energy to produce electricity and was inspired from NASA’s Mars Tumbleweed Rover
  • It is a sphere shaped object with vents that spins and converts the power of the wind into electricity.

 

SPORTS

• LI NING BWF World Junior Championship was organized at Markham, Canada in which India’s top Junior Shuttler Lakshya Sen won the bronze medal in Men’s Single event.
  • Lakshya Sen lost 22-20, 16-21, 13-21 to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semi-final of the men’s single junior championship on 17th November 2018.

 

IMPORTANT DAYS

• Africa Industrialization Day (AID) celebrated on Novmeber 20
  • The 2018 Africa Industrialization Day was celebrated at United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO)’s headquarters in Vienna, with an event organized by UNIDO with the support of the United Nations Office of the Secretary-General, the UN Economic Commission on Africa (UNECA), and the African Union Commission (AUC).
  • It focused on the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA III). It was first established in 1989 by UNGA to raise awareness about the importance of Africa’s industrialization and the challenges faced by the continent.
  • The Theme for the 2018 edition is: “Promoting Regional Value Chains in Africa: A pathway for accelerating Africa’s structural transformation, industrialization and pharmaceutical production”
