• மே 2, 2019 ஆம் நாள் ரஷ்ய ஜனாதிபதியானவிளாடிமிர்புட்டின் சாவெரெய்ங் இணையதளம் (Sovereign Internet) என்னும் சமசோதாவில் கையெழுத்திட்டார் இது அந்நாட்டின் இணையத்தைதனிமைப்படுத்தவும்

ENGLISH CURRENT AFFAIRS

 

NATIONAL NEWS

• The Central Works Public Department (CPWD) has constituted an expert committee to formulate a design policy for building construction and infrastructure development. The committee has been set up under the chairmanship of CPWD’s Additional Director General M K Sharma.

 

• LIC Housing Finance (LIC HFL) has launched ‘Udyam’, a skilling centre in Bengaluru. It was launched in association with Lok Bharti Education Society, the implementing partner.
  • The Centres of Excellence will provide training to marginalised youth in the BFSI, retail, and IT/ ITES sectors.

 

• Indian government had earlier proposed a special green-coloured number plate for all electric vehicles in the country. Putting the year old plan in action, the Central government has now asked the state transport departments to make it mandatory for all EVs to use the green number plates, irrespective of the year in which they were bought.

 

• The Geological Survey of India (GSI) North Eastern Region (NER) installed 2 geological display boards at 2important geological sites with geo-scientific information. The sites are Mawmluh cave and Therriaghat cave in Meghalaya.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• US President Donald Trump has said he will withdraw his country from the International Arms Trade Treaty. The agreement, signed by Barack Obama in 2013, aims to regulate the sale of weapons between countries.
  • The US National Rifle Association says the treaty amounts to international gun control, and is a threat to America’s second amendment right to bear arms. The US is the world’s top arms exporter.

 

ECONOMY

• Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) have together signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) for effective cooperation on different projects related to e-mobility and implement solutions for electric & trolley bus, EV (Electric Vehicles) chargers, battery and charger testing, etc.
  • The MoU was signed by Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director, ARAI and Renuka Gera, BHEL.

 

APPOINTMENTS

• Kumar Sangakkara,Former Sri Lanka captain has been named as the first non-British president of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).He succeeds Anthony Wreford. It was announced at the MCC annual general meeting at Lord’s on 1 May 2019.He will take up his one-year post in October.

 

ENVIRONMENT

• Indian archaeologists recently unearthed a life-sized stucco sculpture from a Buddhist site at Phanigiri in Suryapet, Telangana. As per heritage department officials it represents one of Bhodhisattva in JathakaChakra.This is the largest stucco sculpture found from India till date.
  • The sculpture is about 1.73 metres in height and 35 cm in width.
