  • இந்தியாவிலேயே முதல் முறையாக தமிழ்நாட்டின் மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைகளில் காணப்படும் காட்டுக் காளான் வகைகளிலிருந்து புற்றுநோய் எதிர்ப்புச் சேர்மங்களை பிரித்தெடுப்பதற்கான காப்புரிமை வழங்கப்பட்டது. இதனை மெட்ராஸ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் ஓய்வுபெற்ற பேராசிரியர் வெங்கடேசன் கவியரசனும் அவரது முனைவர்க்கு பயிலும் மாணவர் து.மஞ்சுநாதனும் கண்டறிந்துள்ளனர். Lentinus tuberregium என்பது அவர்கள் கண்டறிந்த காளான் வகையாகும்

  • இந்தியா உலகளாவிய பேரழிவு குறைப்பு மற்றும் மீட்பு பணியில் துணைபுரியும் அமைப்பான GFDRR 2020 ஆம் நிதியாண்டிற்கு ஒரு மனதாக ஆலோசணை (CG) குழுவின் துணை தலைவராக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
    • CG -இன் மற்ற துணை தலைவர்கள் ஆப்பிரிக்க கரேபியன் மற்றும் பசிபிக் (ACP) மாநிலங்களின் குழு, ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியம் மற்றும் உலக வங்கி

 

  • ஏஸ் சிறப்பு படைத் தளபதி மற்றும் ஸ்ரீலங்கா போர் வீரரான மேஜர் ஜெனரல் ஏ.கே.தீங்ரா இந்தியாவின் மூன்று படைகளையும் உள்ளடக்கிய ஒரு சிறப்பு நடவடிக்கை பிரிவின் தலைவராக நியமிக்கப்பட்ட முதல் நபராவார்

  • ISIS – கோரசானுக்கு அல் கொய்தாவுடன் தொடர்புள்ளதாகவும் மற்றும் ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் (ம) பாகிஸ்தானில் நடந்த தாக்குதலில் பங்குள்ளதாகவும் ஐ.நா சபை அறிவித்துள்ளது
    • இதனால் அந்த அமைப்பின் சொத்துகளை முடக்கியுள்ளனர் மேலும் அதனை சார்ந்தவர்கள் மீது பயணத்தடையும் ஆயுத தடையும் போடப்பட்டுள்ளது

  • இந்தியாவின் ராகில் கான்ஜி ஆசியா பசிபிக் வைர கோப்பையில் 39-வது இடத்திலுள்ளார்
    • இதில் முதலிடத்தில் ஜப்பானின் யோசுகே அசாஜி முதலிடம் பெற்றார்
    • இது ஜப்பானில் நடைபெற்றது

 

 

வர்த்தக நிகழ்வுகள்

 

 

  • வர்த்தகம் மற்றும் தொழில் துறை அமைச்சகத்தின் படி இந்தியாவில் ஏப்ரல் 2018 முதல் ஏப்ரல் 2019 வரையுள்ள ஒட்டுமொத்த ஏற்றுமதி விற்பனை மற்றும் சேவைகள் மூலம் 4 பில்லியன் டாலர் நேர்மறை வளர்ச்சியடைந்ததாக கூறியுள்ளனர்.
    • இதன் மூலம் ஏப்ரல் 2019 இல் இந்தியா 1.34% வளர்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளது

 

ENGLISH CURRENT AFFAIRS

NATIONAL NEWS

 

  • National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), HCL Foundation and Indian national Trust for Art and Culture Heritage (INTACH) signed tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Plantation of Rudraksh Trees in Uttarakhand under the ‘Namami Gange’ Programme.
    • The objective is to create a greener ecosystem in the Ganga Basin along the stretch of 97 towns and 4,465 villages.

 

  • The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba inaugurated Indian Navy’s first full-fledged Service Selection Board (SSB) at Diamond Harbour, near Kolkata.
    • Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, has attended the inauguration.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 

  • The 6th Session of the biennial Global Platform for (DDR) Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2019) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 13th May to 17 May, 2019 and will be co-chaired by Switzerland and UNISDR.
    • The theme of the session is ‘Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies’.

 

ECONOMY

 

  • The Home Ministry has cancelled the registration of NGO Infosys Foundation under the Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act for violating the norms of receiving foreign grants.
    • Under the FCRA Act, all non-government organisations (NGOs) have to mandatorily register under the act.

 

APPOINTMENTS

 

  • The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) notified that A K Sikri, former Supreme Court judge has been appointed as the chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority.
    • The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) is an independent self-regulatory body of 24×7 news channels (who are members of the NBA).

AWARDS

 

  • On May 15, 2019, 49 year old Nepali sherpa Kami Rita climbed Mt. Everest for the 23rd time and broke his own record for most summits on Mt. Everest. He successfully climbed the mountain from the Nepal side.
    • Rita resides in Thame village of Solukhumbu district. For the first time, he had scaled the mountain in the year 1994.

 

IMPORTANT DAYS

 

  • As proclaimed by the UN (United Nations) General Assembly in 1993 with resolution A/RES/47/237, the International Day of Families or IDF is observed on May 15 every year and it lays stress on the importance attached to families.
    • Its theme for 2019 is: “Families and Climate Action: Focus on SDG 13”.
