• புதிய மற்றும் புதுப்பிக்கதக்க எரிசக்தி அமைச்சகம் (MNRE) புதுப்பிக்கதக்க எரிசக்தி துறையின் அனைத்து பங்குதாரர்களுக்கும் இடையில் நடத்தியது.
  • MNRE–ஆல் நடத்தப்பட்ட “சின்டான் பைத்தக்” கூட்டம் இதுவே முதல்முறையாகும்.
• இந்தியாவின் இரு கடற்படை கப்பல்களான ஐ.என்.எஸ் கொல்கத்தா மற்றும் ஐ.என்.எஸ்.சக்தி ஆகியவை தென் சீனா கடல் பகுதியில் அமெரிக்கா ஜப்பான் மற்றும் பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் உடன் இணைந்து கடற்பயிற்சியில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.
  • இது மே 3 தொடங்கி மே 9 வரை நடைபெற்றது. மேலும் இதன் பெயர் “குரூப் செயில்” (Group Sail) என்பதாகும்.

• ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் க்வாண்டாஸால் இயக்கப்பட்ட வர்த்தக விமானமான QF739 விமானம் உலகில் முதல் பூஜ்ய கழிவுகளை கொண்ட விமானமாக ஆனது.
  • இது சிட்னியிலிருந்து அடிலெய்டு வரை செல்வது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
  • இதில் கழிவுகள் உரமாக மறு பயன்பாடு மூலம் அல்லது மறுசுழற்சி மூலம் அகற்றப்படும்.
• சிங்கப்பூரின் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் போலி செய்திகளை கட்டுப்படுத்த ஒரு புதிய சட்டமானது பிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • இதன் மூலம் தவறான செய்தி பரப்புவோருக்கு 10 ஆண்டுகள் சிறை மற்றும் ஒரு மில்லியன் டாலர் வரை அபராதம் விதிக்கப்படலாம் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

• அறிவியல் விமானப்படை ஆராய்ச்சி ஆய்வகம், நியூ மெக்ஸிகோவில் அமெரிக்க இராணுவத்தின் வெள்ளை சாண்ட்ஸ் ஏவுகணை சோதனை பகுதியில் சுய-பாதுகாப்பு உயர் எரிசக்தி லேசர் செய்முறையாளர் (Self – Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD)) என்று அழைக்கப்படும் லேசரை பரிசோதித்தனர்.
  • இது புவியிலிருந்து விண்ணில் இருக்கும் பொருளையும் விண்ணிலிருந்து விண்ணிலிருக்கும் பொருளையும் தாக்க கூடும் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

• சர்வதேச மன்றமான ஆர்டிக் கவுன்சிலில் பார்வையாளராக இந்தியா மீண்டும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
  • கனடா, டென்மார்க், பின்லாந்து, ஐஸ்லாந்து, நார்வே, ரஷ்யா, ஸ்வீடன் மற்றும் அமெரிக்கா ஆகியவை ஆர்டிக் கவுன்சிலின் உறுப்பினராவார்.

• வங்காள இலக்கியம் மற்றும் இசையை மறுசீரமைத்த இந்தியாவின் முதல் நோபல் பரிசு பெற்றவர் ரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூர் அவர்களின் 158 வது பிறந்த நாள் 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டு மே 9 ஆம் தேதி அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டது.
  • அவர் சாந்தி நிகேதனத்தில் விஷ்வ பாரதி பல்கலைக்கழகத்தை தொடங்கினார்.
  • ரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூரின் பிறந்த நாள் பொசிஷே போயிஷாக் (Pochise Boishakh) 2019 என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

NATIONAL NEWS

• As part of the regular exchange between India and Turkey, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr Sedat Onal visited India from 7th May-9th May, 2019. Mr Sedat Onal had previously visited India as part of the delegation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May 2017.
  • Off-late the political exchange between India and Turkey have strengthened our deep-rooted ties that goes back to many centuries, and opened up various new arenas for cooperation.

 

• After a meeting of Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan and General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) Vice Minister Li Guo, India and China signed a protocol for exportation of Indian chilli meal to China.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• Recently, the Australian flight carrier, Qantas has operated world’s first zero waste commercial flight named QF739 from Sydney to Adelaide which disposed all waste through compost, reuse or recycle.
  • This airline has substituted over 1000 single-use plastic items with more environment friendly items which has helped airline to achieve zero-waste during commercial flight.

 

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

• WHO (World Health organization) collaborated with the International Food and Beverage Alliance (IFBA) to eliminate industrially produced trans fat (iTFA) from food supply worldwide by 2023.
  • Trans fat-intake leads to coronary heart disease, due to which globally 5,00,000 deaths occur every year.

 

ECONOMY

• Food inflation in the country is likely to go up to 2 per cent in the financial year 2019-20 from the 0.7 per cent estimated for FY19. The low food prices have been one of the prime factors which has aided the RBI to be more accommodatory in its rate setting recently.
  • In the report, foreign brokerage Goldman Sachs attributed the low food prices in the last few months to the prices of cereals and vegetables which have been low for some time.

 

AWARDS

• On 7th May 2019, Digital marketing platform SEMrush reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most-followed politician in the world on social media with a total audience of 9 million on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Former US President Barack Obama was ranked first with 182.7 million followers.
