  • முதலமைச்சர் எடப்பாடி பழனிச்சாமி தலைமையில் நடந்த 2வது உலக முதலீட்டாளர்கள் மாநாட்டில் ரூ.3 லட்சத்து 431 கோடி முதலீட்டுக்கான புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.
    • இதில் கலந்து கொண்ட தொழில் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு, அரசு சார்பில் வழிகாட்டுதல் கூட்டம் சென்னை கிண்டியில் நடந்தது.
    • ஒப்பந்தம் மேற்கொண்டவர்களில் 366 தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் உற்பத்தியை தொடங்கி உள்ளன.

National News

 

  • On 27th February, 2019, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has handed over the 100th Letter of Intent (LoI) under SATAT- Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation scheme to Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) entrepreneur, which is an waste to wealth venture.
    • After hand over of LoI, CBG would significantly reduce India’s import burden and provide an environment friendly and low cost alternative to conventional petroleum fuels.

 

  • Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) with Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment have organized a national conference on “Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme” at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on 1st March, 2019.
    • The motive behind this conference is to lay impact on the need for creation of an inclusive society that accepts and respects disabled persons without discrimination.

 

  • Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) took part in the 3-day ‘Mainamati Maitree Exercise 2019’ as a part of ‘Confidence Building Measures’ between the two border guards of India and Bangladesh held in a general area of BSF’s Srimantapur border outpost near Agartala, Tripura.

 

  • The Railways has decided to suspend operations of the Indo-Pak Samjhauta Express on its side due to the drastic decline in occupancy especially after the Pulwama terror attack
    • The Railway Board has decided to cancel all operations from the train’s next scheduled run.
    • Pakistan has already suspended services on its end in the aftermath of the February 14 terror attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama.

 

  • West Bengal Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee unveiled a web portal, “Banglar Shiksha” (banglarshiksha.gov.in), to provide real-time data on state-run and aided schools.
    • This Web portal will store real-time data of 1.5 crore students, 5 lakh teachers and 1 lakh schools and will also address many issues like attendance of students and teachers.

 

International News

 

  • The United States and North Korea have failed to reach a formal deal at the Hanoi Summit.
    • The talk has ended with no agreement after the US refused North Korean demand to lift all international sanctions.
    • The two-day meeting in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi had come eight months after their historic summit in Singapore in June last year.

 

Economy

 

  • According to the US-based rating agency – Moody’s quarterly Global Macro Outlook which was released on 1st March, 2019, Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.3 per cent in 2019 and 2020.
    • According to Moody’s India is less exposed to decline in global manufacturing trade growth than other Asian economies and emerging markets and is balanced to grow at a relatively stable pace in the next two years.

  • Vice President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu presented Kalam Innovation in Governance Award 2019, at the third edition of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Summit on Innovation and Governance held in New Delhi.
    • On this occasion, he also started 75 new Kalam Digital Libraries spread across the country, which will be serving as centers for no-cost digital based learning in schools.

  • The England women’s cricket team are currently playing the India women’s cricket team in February and March 2019.
    • The tour consists of 3 Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs), which formed part of the 2017–20 ICC Women’s Championship, and 3 Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20)

 

  • West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle became the first player in the world to hit 500 sixes the 14th batsman and second from the Caribbean after Brian Lara, to reach the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs, after scoring 162 off 97 balls against England in the fourth ODI at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada.
