• கிராமப்புற பெண்களுக்கு டிஜிட்டல் நிதி ஒதுக்கீடு செய்வதற்கான ஒரு திட்டமான ‘டிஜிட்டல் சாகி’ “Digital Sakhi”-L&T நிதி சேவைகள் (LTFS) தமிழ்நாட்டிலுள்ள விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்தின் இரண்டு கிராமங்களில் தொடங்கியுள்ளது.

 

• திருவாரூர் – காரைக்குடி தடத்தில் ஜுன் 1 முதல் 30 வரை DEMU சிறப்பு இரயில் இயக்கப்படும் என்று தெற்கு ரயில்வேயின் திருச்சி கோட்ட நிர்வாகம் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

• நிதி அமைச்சரான நிர்மலா சீதாராமன் ஜப்பானில் நடக்கவிருக்கும் ஜி-20 நிதி அமைச்சர்கள் மற்றும் மத்திய வங்கிகளின் ஆளுநர்களின் இரு நாள் உச்சிமாநாட்டில் கலந்து கொள்ளவுள்ளார்.
  • இது 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டு 28-29 ஜுன் மாதம் ஒசாகாவில் நடக்கவுள்ளது.
  • சவூதி அரேபியா, 2020 நவம்பரில் G20 உச்சிமாநாட்டை நடத்தும் என்பது குறிப்பிடதக்கது.

NATIONAL NEWS

• As part of it’s countrywide ‘Go Green’ initiative, the Indian Army commissioned a “Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS)” at Fort William Military Station, Kolkata.
  • General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, commissioned the system, which monitors air pollution on a real-time basis.

 

• Boeing has signed a technical assistance agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to jointly develop a comprehensive 10-year roadmap for modernising air traffic management in India.
  • The roadmap is expected to be developed within 18 months and it will be undertaken with a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

 

• The World Bank retained its forecast of India’s growth rate at 7.5 per cent for the current financial year. In its Global Economic Prospects report, the World Bank also said growth rate is expected to remain the same for the next two fiscals.
  • According to the report, private consumption and investment will benefit from strengthening credit growth amid more accommodative monetary policy, with inflation having fallen below the Reserve Bank of India’s target.

 

SPORTS

• The Indian junior women’s hockey team clinched the Cantor Fitzgerald U21 International 4-Nations title after beating Ireland 1-0 in the final at Dublin, Ireland. The win meant India ended the tournament with an unblemished record.
  • With three goals in four games, Mumtaz Khan finished as the highest goal scorer of the tournament.

 

APPOINTMENTS

• Comptroller and Auditor General of India Rajiv Mehrishi has been elected as external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for four years from 2020 to 2023.
  • Mehrishi was elected at the 72nd World Health Assembly in Geneva last month with a majority

 

AWARDS

• Google’s India-born CEO Sundar Pichai and Nasdaq president Adena Friedman have been chosen for the prestigious Global Leadership Awards 2019.
  • The award is given by business advocacy group USIBC in recognition of the two companies’ contribution as the leading technology-driven platforms.

• World Environment Day is observed every year on the 5th of June. The day is celebrated every year to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth.
  • This year the theme of Environment Day is ‘Air Pollution’.
