• கிம்பர்லி செயல்முறை சான்றளிப்புத் திட்டத்தின் (Kimberley Process Certification Scheme- KPCS) நிறுவன உறுப்பினர்களுள் ஒன்றான இந்தியா, கிம்பர்லி செயல்முறையின் 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கான தலைவராக உள்ளது. இரஷ்ய கூட்டமைப்பு, அதன் துணைத்தலைவராக உள்ளது. ஜீன் 17- 21 வரை கிம்பர்லி செயல்முறையின் கூட்டத்தொடர் சந்திப்பை இந்தியா, மும்பையில் நடைபெற்றது

• இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வு மையத்தின் தலைவர் Dr. K சிவன் 2030 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குள் இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வு மையம் தனக்கென சொந்தமாக விண்வெளி நிலையத்தை அமைக்கும் என அறிவித்தார். இது விண்ணுக்கு அதிகமான விண்வெளி வீரர்களை அனுப்ப ISRO வுக்கு உதவும்.விண்வெளி நிலையம் என்பது வாழத்தகுந்த செயற்கைக்கோள் போன்றது. இது, நீண்டகாலத்திற்கு விண்ணிலிருந்து ஆய்வுசெய்ய உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு உதவும் திறன் கொண்டது.

NATIONAL NEWS

• According to the President of India, construction or up gradation of about 35,000 kilometres of national highways are to be undertaken by 2022 under the ‘Bharatmala Project’.
  • Also under the ‘Sagarmala Project’, a network of good quality roads are to be constructed in coastal areas and areas adjoining ports.

 

• Indian Navy has deployed Ships INS Chennai and INS Sunayna in the Gulf of Oman. It has deployed to re-assure Indian Flagged Vessels operating or transiting through the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman following the maritime security incidents in the region.
  • In addition, aerial surveillance by Indian Navy aircraft is also being undertaken in the area.

 

• President Ram Nath Kovind has highlighted the importance of the government’s flagship ‘Khelo India Programme’.
  • Addressing the joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament, the President said the new government has decided to widen the spectrum of the ‘Khelo India Programme’ to cover the entire country.

 

APPOINTMENTS

• India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was appointed in an independent capacity by the World Archery to sort out the ongoing mess in the national federation.
  • The development comes a day after the world body de-listed the Archery Association of India for violating the constitution by unanimously electing two parallel bodies in Chandigarh and New Delhi.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

• Sri Lanka’s first satellite ‘Ravana-1’, designed and developed by two local engineers, was successfully launched into orbit this week from the International Space Station (ISS) along with two other BIRDS 3 satellites from Japan and Nepal.

ECONOMY

• Indiabulls Housing Finance said that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved its proposed merger with Lakshmi Vilas Bank.
  • The merged entity, to be called Indiabulls Lakshmi Vilas Bank, will be among the top eight private banks in India by size and profitability.

 

IMPORTANT DAYS

• International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi.
  • The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga. 2019 Theme: Yoga for Climate Action
