  • நாகாலந்து மாநில அரசனது சிங்பன் வனவிலங்கு சரணாலயத்தை யானைகள் காப்பகமாக அறிவித்துள்ளது.
    • இது நாட்டில் 30 வது யானைகள் காப்பகம் ஆகும்.

  • இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனம் தயாரித்த விண்வெளி ஆடையை அந்நிறுவனம் காட்சிப்படுத்தியது.
    • பெங்களுர் விண்வெளிக் கண்காட்சியின் 6-வது பதிப்பின்போது அந்நிறுவனம் இந்த விண்வெளி ஆடையை காட்சிப்படுத்தியது. ஆரஞ்சு நிற முன்வடிவம் கொண்ட இந்த விண்வெளி ஆடையை திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் உள்ள விக்ரம் சாராபாய் விண்வெளி மையம் கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக இதை வடிவமைத்து வந்தது.

NATIONAL NEWS

 

  • To develop and deploy AI-led application-based research projects,  NITI Aayog, Intel and TIFRcollaborated to set up a Model International Center for Transformative AI (ICTAI) in  It is a part of NITI Aayog’s plan on ‘National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence’.
    • It would conduct advanced research to produce AI-led solutions in three important areas – healthcare, agriculture and smart mobility.

 

  • To enable Corporates and PSUs to contribute to upgradation through Corporate Social Responsibility funds, the Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyallaunched a web portal called ‘Rail Sahyog’ to rope in corporate collaborations.
    • The Webportal is :  railsahyog.in. his has been made for the Indian Railway stations for upgrading its infrastructure, technology, hygieneamong other things.

 

  • NITI Aayogannounced that Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will cover treatment of childhood cancer. It was announced by NITI Aayog member Vinod Kumar Paul.

 

  • To create a common platform to implement Best Practices in Citizen Centric Governance, 2 day Regional Conference on Good Governance with Focus on Aspirational Districtswas held in 
    • It was organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG), Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh.

 

  • The Women and Child Developmentministry of Goa launched a helpline service for women in distress in the state. The helpline number is : 181 and will be operated by GVK-EMRI along with the ministry.
    • It would provide counselling, guidance, information, as well as deal with cases of domestic violence.

 

  • The Haryana governmenton September 10 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to set up an ethanol plant in Panipat with an outlay of over Rs 900 crore.
    • For the first time,bus services between Bihar and Nepal have started. The bus service was flagged off from Patna by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The bus services have been commissioned following the agreement between India and Nepal. 

 

  • The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluruis set to become the first airport in Asia next year to use face recognition as the boarding procedure for passengers to board flights and move across different sections of the airport.

 

  • As part of the ongoing Indo-US defence cooperation, a joint military training Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2018 is scheduled to be conducted in the foothills of Himalayas at Chaubattiain Uttarakhand from 16 September to 29 September 2018.  

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 

  • A two-day India-UAE Partnership Summit (IUPS)will be held in Dubai from October 30. We are delighted to support the second IUPS being organised by the Business Leaders Forum (BLF). Its objectives and agenda fit perfectly into efforts to promote the strategic partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates.

 

  • Indo-Mongoliajoint exercise Nomadic Elephant-2018, commenced at Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) Five Hills Training Area, Ullanbaatar, Mongolia. 
    • Exercise Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral exercise since 2006 which is designed to strengthen the partnership between Indian Army and Mongolian Armed Forces.

 

AWARDS

 

  • An India-born woman research scholar from the University of Washington won the Paul Baran Young Scholar Award for 2018for using smartphones to detect life-threatening symptoms, the California-based Marconi Society.
    • Nandakumar Rajalakshmi is the winner of this year’sYoung Scholar Award for her outstanding research work in detecting life-threatening symptoms using smartphones.

 

  • The US National Cancer Institute has give the “Outstanding Investigator Award”to Professor Arul Chinnaiyan, from the University of Michigan, and $6.5 million in funding over seven years, to identify cancer biomarkers to improve diagnosis and develop new targeted therapies.

 

SPORTS

 

  • The ICC has decided to accord One-Day International status to India and Pakistan’s group league matches against Hong Kong in the upcoming Asia Cup, starting September 15. Hong Kong, an ICC associate member, is yet to get ODI status but have beaten UAE, who recently earned the ODI status, to qualify for the Asia Cup.
