  • உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பு, உலகின் மிகவும் மாசுப்பட்ட நகரங்கள் பட்டியலை வெளியிட்டது இதில் ஷபோல்(ஈரான்) நகரம் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது. இந்தியாவின் குவாலியர் மற்றும் அலகாபாத் நகரங்கள் 2, 3வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது. புது டெல்லி 11வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது.

 

  • உலகில் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளுக்கு ஆபத்து நிறைந்த நாடுகள் பட்டியலை யூனிசெப் அறிவித்துள்ளது. இதில் பாகிஸ்தான் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது. இந்தியா 12வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது.

 

  • 99 சதவீதம் சூரிய ஒளியை உறிஞ்சும் தன்மை கொண்ட உலகின் மிக இருட்டான கட்டிடம் தென் கொரியாவில் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

  • உத்திரப்பிரதேசத்தில் சர்வதேச முதலீட்டாளர்கள் மாநாட்டை பிரதமர் நரேந்திர மோடி இன்று தொடங்கி வைத்தார்.

 

  • பெண்களுக்கு தொடக்கக்கல்வி முதல் முதுகலைப் படிப்பு வரை இலவசக் கல்வி வழங்கப்படும் என கர்நாடக முதல்வர் சித்தராமையா அறிவித்துள்ளது.

 

  • 500 பெண் தலைவர்கள் பங்கேற்கும் சர்வதேச மகளிர் மாநாடு பெங்களுரில் உள்ள ‘தி ஆர்ட் ஆஃப் லிவிங்’ சர்வதேச மையத்தில் பிப்ரவரி 23-25வரை நடைபெறுகிறது.

 

  • உத்திரப்பிரதேசம், மத்தியப் பிரதேசம், பீகார், ஒடிஸா ஆகிய நான்கு மாநிலங்களில் ரூ.11,661 கோடி மதிப்பில் 6 திட்டங்களை நிறைவேற்றுவதற்கு மத்திய அமைச்சரவை ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளது.

 

  • தமிழகத்தில் மார்ச் 5 முதல் 3 நாட்கள் முதலமைச்சர் எடப்பாடி பழனிச்சாமி தலைமையில் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் மற்றும் காவல்துறை அதிகாரிகளின் மாநாடு நடைபெறவுள்ளது.

 

  • ஹைதராபாத்தில் நடைபெற்று வரும் சர்வதேச தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப கருத்தரங்கில் சவுதி அரேபியாவின் சோபியா ரோபோ பெண் உரிமைகளை குறித்து கலந்துரையாடல் செய்ய உள்ளது.

 

  • ஜார்க்கண்ட் மாநிலத்தில் ரூ.600 கோடி செலவில் உலகின் மிக உயரமான புத்த ஸ்தூபி அமைக்கப்படும் என்று மாநில முதல்வர் ரகுவர் தாஸ் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

  • கனடாவின் பேர்பேக்ஸ் நிறுவனம், கேரளாவில் உள்ள கத்தோலிக் சிரியன் வங்கியின் 51 சதவீதத்தை வாங்க முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் 51 சதவீதம் பங்குகளை வாங்கும் முதல் வெளிநாட்டு நிறுவனம் இதுவாகும்.

 

  • பன்னாட்டு வர்த்தக ரேட்டிங் அமைப்பான மூடிஸ், பஞ்சாப் நேஷனல் வங்கியின் மதிப்பீட்டு தரக்குறியீட்டை குறைத்துள்ளது. வங்கியின் வெளிநாட்டு பண வெளியீட்டு மதிப்பு திறன் Baa3 எனவும், ஓட்டுமொத்த மதிப்பீடு Baa2 எனவும் குறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 

  • உள்நாட்டில், நிலக்கரியை வெட்டி எடுத்து வர்த்தகரீயாக விற்பனை செய்ய தனியார் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு மத்திய அரசு அனுமதி வழங்கியுள்ளது.

National News

 

  • India and United Kingdom jointly launched research projects on ‘Water Quality Research’ and ‘Energy Demand Reduction in Built Environment’. These projects aim to deliver mutual benefits and research solutions the UK and India, besides addressing shared global sustainable development goals on clean water and clean energy.

 

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its approval to the construction of 4.531 km long 2-Lane Bi-Directional Silkyara Bend – Barkot Tunnel with escape passage including approaches on Dharasu -Yamunotri section between Chainage 25.400 Km. and Chainage 51.000 Km in Uttarakhand. The project will be falling along NH-134 (old NH-94) in the State of Uttarakhand.

 

  • The Union Cabinet approved multi-crore developmental projects worth Rs 11,661 crore, which include doubling and electrification of many lines. The new projects will herald good news for passengers as the crucial lines will reduce congestion on the existing network, enabling better punctuality of trains.

 

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Palace Queen Humsafar Express between Mysuru and Udaipur in Mysuru Railway Station. The train between Mysuru and Udaipur will act as a backbone of tourism, an employment generating industry.

 

  • In view to increase awareness and remove taboo about menstrual hygiene, the Maharashtra government has decided to launch Asmita Yojana on the International Women’s Day (March 8). High costs of sanitary pads, unavailability in rural areas and awkwardness among women to purchase them from male chemists are the main reasons behind such low awareness.

 

  • The Virgin Group signed an “intent agreement” with Maharashtra to build a hyper loop transportation system between Mumbai and Pune, which aims to reduce the travel time between the two mega cities to 20 minutes from the three hours at present.

 

  • The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) test-fired Agni II medium-range nuclear-capable missile from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. The missile has a strike range of more than 2,000 km. The launch comes one week after India test successfully fired indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear capable Agni-I (A) ballistic missile.

 

  • India will host the World Environment Day 2018, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan and United Nations Environment Program chief Erik Solheim said. The theme for the World Environment Day-2018, held every year on June 5, is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Canada hosted the event in 2017.

 

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 19, addressed World Congress on Information Technology in Hyderabad via Video Conference.

 

International News

 

  • The Pakistani Senate approved a motion to declare Mandarin as one of the official languages of Pakistan. The motion said the step was necessary in view of ties between Pakistan and China. Other official languages of Pakistan is Urdu and English.

 

  • UK-India research projects on ‘Water Quality Research’ and ‘Energy Demand Reduction in Built Environment’ were launched by Dr V K Saraswat, Member, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST) India and Daniel Shah, Director, Research Councils UK (RCUK) India. The ‘Water Quality Research’ programme has eight projects and ‘Energy Demand Reduction in Built Environment’ programme has four projects, with a total joint investment of up to £15 million.

 

Appointments

 

  • Debashish Mukherjee and Murali Ramaswami have been appointed executive directors of Canara Bank and Vijaya Bank respectively, according to an official order. Mukherjee is at present the general manager of United Bank of India and Ramaswami is the GM of Vijaya Bank. Mukherjee’s appointment is initially for three years but it is extendable by two years after review of his performance, the order issued by personnel ministry said.

  • Mumbai Virat Kohli became only the second batsman ever after South Africa’s AB de Villiers to have earned more than 900 rating points in ICC Rankings, in Test and ODI cricket concurrently. Kohli also became the first Indian batsmen ever to have breached the 900 points-mark in ODIs, extending his lead over de Villiers. Kohli now has 909 points, well ahead of de Villiers who has 844.

Former India cricketer and assistant coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils Pravin Amre was awarded Coach of the Year for the 2016-17.

 

Obituary

 

  • Well-known Telugu cinema comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passed away on February 19 in Hyderabad. He was 61.
